Banded Yesterday 4/30!! Feel Great So Far

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to let everyone know that my surgery went great. My doc put in a pain pump that will stay 5 days.

Do all doctors do that?

I didn't know he was going to do that but am glad he did.

He told me to walk as much as possible so I have been up all morning moving around.

When should I weigh for the first time??

What is the normal loss??

drekagirl,

I'm so jealous. Yesterday should of been my date too, but I couldn't get in to see the dietician and psychologist until April 24.

Anyway, congrats. My doctor said most of his female patients lost betweem 15 and 25 lbs at their 4 week post op appointment. I'm sure it will vary depending on Water loss alone.

Good luck with everything.

Lynette

Wow...I only got a pain pump for one day. I had a hard time with the pump though. I made me nausious and was always dozing off to sleep. When i quit using the pump I was able to move around more and feel better faster :)

Best of Luck to you

It is an IV in my stomach that releases pain medicine throughout the day. It helps greatly with the pain and cuts down on oral meds. I didn't know that my doctor was putting it in but was glad he did.

I did not have a pain pump....I have never heard of this...that sounds like a really good thing....I had liquid pain meds....

Congratulations on your banding....

The pain pump allowed me to self administer a dose of morphine every 8 min if i needed it. But it would just knock me out for about 45 min at a time, then any movement made me sick....so i quit using the meds unless i was in ALOT of pain.

Hello all,

My surgery is scheduled for June 7! I have my appointment with the surgeon and the physician assistant on May 21 and 24. I will have to add the pain pump to my list of questions!

I am getting so nervous! I have waited for months and now that is less than a month away, I am worried if I am doing the right thing? I am thinking this is normal? did any of you experience that?

My son is also getting married July 7, I will be on mushies which wont' be fun, but I feel there will always be some event going on and not to let this stop me! I was told I can drink champagne!

Keep me in the loop. I need to keep chatting with recent banders and seniors to learn and get support. this site is great.

ja9VA - Join the June 2007 bandsters thread - you can keep in touch with people being banded around the same time. http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=33199

3 kinds of pain pumps

Epidural - catheter into the epidural space in the spine for continuous or narcotic infusions - typically used in Labor and Delivery and for big open surgical procedures

PCA - patient controlled anesthesia - IV attached to a pump filled with a narcotic - patient can push a button for medication delivery at set intervals of time

Localized pain pump - used at the incision site for local pain control - filled with a local anesthetic - lidocaine or marcaine usually. Pump infuses a set amount of medication continuously. This may make sense at the port site since it is an incision versus a puncture. I had not heard of anyone doing this, but not bad idea since the port site seems to give a lot a people pain.

I had to go through 6 month dr supervised weight loss attempts before my ins would approve. I got through it and am scheduled for surgery may 30. the first few months are the slowest but before you know it the six months are over and you are ready for surgery. don't give up and good luck

I had the localized pain pump. It would let meds out every 2 min. I am really glad that I had it because I didn't have to take anything orally.

ja9va--I had the same thing happen to me. I really started questioning weather or not I should do it. In the end, I am so glad

that I did. You will do great. Good luck.

I am a bit nervous. My surgery is scheduled for 5/6. Comments regarding pain after surgery have been quoted from "not as bad as I thought" to "horrible". Any of you have any regrets?

My surgeon's PA just called about 15 mins. ago and told me I was approved through my insurance! I am so excited! Now I meet with the surgeon again to get my surgery date, do my pre-ops, and then start the fun, nasty liquid diet.. But I am so looking forward to it....

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
