Hi I'm 6 weeks post op I was eating bake fish and broccoli with avocado. At first eating with no problem all of a sudden stomach and chest pain I thought I was going to lose my mind, mouth watering running to the bathroom. I did feel a little better I'm still burping food is going up and down like a yo-yo I think I'm stuck no more broccoli!! I'm so upset with myself I can't sip on anything because I'm back in the bathroom. What do I do? :( :( :( :( :(

If the broccoli is in your pouch, stomach acids will break it down and will pass within an hour. Now don't you wish you would have taken the nutritionist more seriously when she said fingernail sized bites and chew, chew, chew?

But, for some, broccoli in any size or shape won't pass so add that one to your list of don'ts till you learn to eat like a Bandster.

Hi there -- unfortunately this is how I had to learn up on what works well for me. For example avocado pieces not smushed up are too slippery for me, as are beets in any form. But I can chew up an apple with the skin on it no problem. We are all different but one thing we have in common in the beginning is how hard it is to learn to go very slowly and chew, chew, chew.

Been there, done that. For me it was pork chops. Tried them not once, but twice. Won't try them a third time. And now I know at the first sense of feeling that sensation, I need to STOP EATING! What on God's green earth made me think another swallow of food would HELP? LOL. Live and learn.

Not to be mean , but it will happen again on other foods but you will learn as we all did , well it sounds as if you had your stop signals remember them and how it felt and you will know when that time comes again , it's no fun , but you will know to say not another bite , this is my humor .

Broccoli and other veggies and some meats this early on may require you to blend it up really good before consuming them. I think the correct term is puree? Hope you feel better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
