Cariboom 13 Posted August 12, 2014 Of all the crazy diets we have been on, this procedure may be the best monitored, most researched, and best supported of all of them. No more fruit fasts or cabbage Soup 5 times a day. This is forever and it will work if you let it. Imagine one of those crazy diets being forever? 7 lin1970, waitingtoexhale, Arlene G and 4 others reacted to this
Zane's Mom 184 Posted August 12, 2014 No regrets. Worth it in every way. Under the forum look for the complications. Even many of those members say they would do it all over again. 4 Susysleever, BeagleLover, NewBeginning2014 and 1 other reacted to this

SusinMichigan 76 Posted August 13, 2014 Yes, I am 6 weeks out and regret it every day. Thinking I should have tried harder with Atkins since that's what life basically is now. I don't like the stalls, it almost kills me to go 12 days without losing a single pound all while trying to drink 64 oz. of Fluid a day that I just about never get in. I'm lucky if I can get 350 calories in a day. I don't enjoy eating anything it's a chore to do so. I eat by a timer, hell, I live by a timer these days. I have to take a cooler with me when I even run errands because there is something goofy going on that throws my entire body off whack. I'm always tired. While I have lost 36.5 pounds since surgery, and am grateful for that, I have yet to have a single happy day. My stomach hurts with just about every meal I eat. I can slowly sip on bouillon and as long as it's only 4 oz. I can do okay. I can eat about 1 tablespoon of food at a sitting without severe chest through my back pain. About 30 of the 36.5 pounds came off in a week. Then there were 12 days with nothing ... not one pound lost. After that I've been losing maybe 1/4 or 1/2 of a pound a day when I have a loss. I think I might have made the wrong decision ... maybe I should have had RNY instead. My brother and friends all went that route, but I didn't want my insides all rerouted. Think long and hard before you make this decision. It's not reversible and it's forever. 2 georgiaholt and utahgirll reacted to this
EvEisMySleeve 3 Posted August 13, 2014 I had my sleeve done 3 weeks ago and I DONT regret a thing! I have lost 30lbs since and feel great! Is it all sunshine and roses? Of course not there are bad days...but nothing worthwhile is easy. I know that it seems, at least in my experience that younger people tend to do better with this surgery...I can't imagine having this when I was 50 or 60, it's a huge toll on your body. It's def something you have to think long and hard about! Best of luck!
BitterSweet* 835 Posted August 13, 2014 @@SusinMichigan, thank you so much for your reply. Your candidness is refreshing. I have not had surgery and although I am approved for the VSG, something in my mind keeps bugging me and it's exactly what you pointed out. The sleeve forces you to do what you could not do, maintain, or accomplish on your own. The question I keep asking myself is why...... I have been successful at losing 75 lbs and keeping it off for years. I wonder, had I paused and appreciated what I accomplished and sought therapy for my food addiction at that time, where would I be today? I really feel in my heart that I could have maintained my weight. I looked awesome and I felt awesome. It felt amazing knowing I had accomplished this from eating 6 healthy meals and working out hard and consistently; but I didn't appreciate it and didn't feel like I deserved it, as odd as that sounds. I never addressed the mental aspects of this roller coaster ride of obesity and slowly but surely I began sabotaging myself and slipping back into old habits - and of course the weight came back with a vengeance. I have been reading these threads for a couple of months and one minute I'm all for the surgery and then I read a story like yours and remember why I'm reluctant in the first place. Again, thank you for your honesty. 2 utahgirll and georgiaholt reacted to this
blondebomb 580 Posted August 13, 2014 I am 50 yrs old...had weight prblm all my life. By my 30s I started with insulin problems, hypothyroidism. No matter what I ate either 300 cal or 1700 cal weight didn't budge. I did active aerobics till mid 30s...health kept goin down hill. Fibromyalgia, autoimmune diseases etc...Iv thought about surgery for 20 yrs..the only regret is I didn't do this sooner. Its a major desicion. When 2 specialist sent me with neither one knowing about the other..I knew it was my time. Yea my surgeon told me if you can get thru first month youv got it whipped. .easy? Hell no! Its a major commitment an lifestyle change. I needed this tool to force me to make the needed changes bc let's face it were here bc of being fat we were unsuccessful on our own. It takes brutal honesty to oneself to face it when we accept we need help. I was in 2 yrs therapy getting to bottom of issues I did that. There is a lonnnng process to go thru to even be approved as a good candidate for this major surgery but I'm soo happy I did..I'm sorry some aren't. Its challenging changes an mental an emotional changes have to be done before this happens. For those who feel it was a mistake I'm sorry u feel that way but give it time. Its a new learned behavior. We have to baby our tummy. I lost 40 pds in 5 wks...it works! Ur body stalls it has to catch up it's also hormonal changes. Cover all basis...there is more success storys then not. I'm feeling like I have a new life! An I'm so excited I'm finally feeling free...best wishes:) 3 emmajp, Yoga lady and finediva reacted to this
Unhappysleever 39 Posted August 13, 2014 Yes I regret it every damn day, 7 mths post op and even though it has got better I would never recommend this to anyone. When I did my research I thought yes this is what I want to do before I get old and have real health issues but I am with Susan. I was totally prepared to eat smaller meals but really to have to eat at a snails pace every single time is so tiring and cumbersome and yeah there are other things but no point going on and on...... 1 utahgirll reacted to this

BitterSweet* 835 Posted August 13, 2014 @blondbomb, thank you for your post. Your honesty is equally appreciated. For me, I really don't know what the turning point will be. I am going through all of the program requirements in case I do decide to have surgery, but at this point I am still very unsure. I know I must sound like a million other obese people thinking they can try one last time to lose weight on their own. The only difference for me is I have always focused on my body and NEVER my mind in my weight loss efforts. Sorta feels like I did things backwards and I know that sleeve surgery is not going to fix my mind, which is the biggest hurdle to overcome. 1 mermaiddreams reacted to this

BitterSweet* 835 Posted August 13, 2014 @@moonlitestarbrite, I agree. Did you seek counseling, and if so, why did you feel it wasn't enough to get you to change your behavior instead of proceeding with surgery (assuming you've been sleeved)? I guess that's really what I'm wondering.....
elpasovet 83 Posted August 13, 2014 Wow. Reading all of this I'm speechless and afraid. Insurance has approved me for surgery. Haven't made a decision yet, I thought I was 100% sure until I read ...above.
