Guys, I'm really worried. I am 3 weeks post op and on soft foods. I had surgery July 22nd. I am eating 900-1200 calories a day already!! I feel hungry a lot, and have no problems eating any foods. I'm so terrified the surgery didn't work. I've only lost 13 pounds since the day of surgery. Is this even remotely normal?

did your Dr not give you a list of foods you're allowed to eat for stage II- Mushy foods?

I'm only a week into my surgery and freaked out myself, so I don't know how much help I will be. Are you limiting the amount of juices? I'm scared to drink too much juice and have been sticking mostly to Water and tea.

It depends on your doctor and what they say, but at 3 weeks you should be eating only mushy foods (like applesauce, mashed potatoes and eggs). I would drink only Water at this point, but talk to your doctor. I just started a few weeks ago eating 1000-1200 calories and I'm 21 weeks out. I would say call your surgeon, maybe talk to the dietician. It will help you feel better.

itsmekarenlee and Marathongirl - He did give me a list and I've followed his exact orders. He says not to worry about calories at all (just worry about Protein and water), but it's hard not to. I'm not on mushy foods, I'm on soft foods. Angie D - I don't drink juice minus a sip here and there of diet cranberry juice (very rarely). I only drink Water.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
