Wow! My Fitmess Pal just blew my mind

Recommended Posts

So, I am 6 weeks post- op and thinking I was handling my eating fairly well -

How wrong I was. today I downloaded the My Fitness Pal app and entered my food for the day - OMG - I was severely underestimating my calories and Protein intake . No wonder I am not feeling energetic, am losing weight slowly and am always tired.

I recommend this app to all sleevers so that you get an accurate picture of what you are putting into your body and can adjust your diet accordingly.

It even calculates the percentages for carbs, protein, sugars etc as well as a

Calorie counts.

I love how easy My Fitness Pal is to use. I've noticed a couple of people have linked/uploaded it to this site. I haven't figured out how but hope to after my surgery. Congratulations on your surgery.

Yes, it's a useful app. I just think the name is so corny!

I love my fitness pal!!!! I have a fitbit pedometer and can sync it to the my fitness pal app and record my activity for the day too!! It's definitely eye opening, and really helps keep you on track! :)

MFP rocks!

It helped me lose 10 pounds in the two months before I started the pre-op diet. I also learned I was eating FAR too little Protein. Geez. Who knew.

And now, of course, on the pre-op diet it's telling me I'm starving to death. :)

Seriously -- I love it.

If you don't want to see the OMG YOU ARE STARVING EAT MOAR FOODZ message, you can just not complete your journal for the day. It will still log the food, but you won't have to see their gloom and doom message. :)

You can also ignore it.

I have used MFP for almost 10 months now. I find it easy to use and a must do for anyone tracking food intake, which I highly recommend. One of the best features for me is tracking of Protein and carbs. I found this very helpful as time progressed. I am eight months post surgery and every time weight loss slowed for me, I was able to increase calories in the right places to continue weight loss. I also make regular adjustments in what I eat each day depending on how the day has gone for me

Pay particular note when trying to increase activity or exercise levels. I found that I needed to increase carbs to get the energy I need to increase exercise levels. I have gone from 600 to 1200 calories during the last eight months and weight loss has been very steady for me. MFP has been a very useful tool in managing the food intake. I have also aded a Fitbit Flex which syncs seamlessly with MFP

I have used MFP every day for over a year. I couldn't have made this jorney without it. I also love that if you go the the my recipe portion and add the ingredients for something you make from scratch it will calculate the calories, fats, Proteins, carbs, sodium and sugar for you. You can then log-it directly from your recipies everytime you make it.

I've been using an alternate app for the last 2 years and love it. It's called Lose-it, you can track all the same things as MFP but also you can track your exercise and there's a buddy system element (which i've never used... yet) where you can connect to other users and challeneg eachother and stuff. I like how it let's me determine for myself what my body's calorie needs are, shows you what your intake is, takes off your exercise calories burned, and shows you how many more calories are available for the day before you exceed your planned intake. It also shows the nutrients for the day so you know your protein, carbs, fat etc. Another thing I like is it's available as a web page as well so its convenient you can enter stuff easily either on the phone or the web.

I use my net diary. It allows me to track blood sugar, even though diabetes seems to be in remission, and provides a weekly report I can show my nutritionist. I've tried my fitness pal, but like the other one much better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
