Body measurements

Recommended Posts

Just got out of the shower which has always been my think tank and I was thinking of body measurements.

Back in the day I was on the Atkins diet and lost quite a bit of weight, but before I started the diet, I measured every thing and then week after week I would take my measurements. Like every Saturday, or whatever.

Back to the shower...I was wondering why the surgeons office didn't take measurements. It's been about a month since my surgery and I've lost around 20 lbs, but I think I am gonna go ahead and take my measurements. It is simple to do and it will feel good to see not only the pounds come off, but the inches as well.

My question to you is did your dr take your measurements before surgery?

No mine didn't but they did give me a chart and a tape measure! So I did it pre op but haven't done it again, I think at my month goal I will do it again. I think measurements are a good idea because some people loose inches before lbs.

No, my doc did not take measurements. I didn't even think about it. I guess I didn't even want to write down my measurements at that size anyway. Of course, it would be good to know now. I do know that my steering wheel in my car used to rub against my stomach and now I have about 5 inches of space between the 2!!!! Yay!

They did not. I had my trainer at the gym take all my measurements. We do that once every 3 months. Yesterday I bought a size 31x30 pair of boot cut jeans. Pre-op I was wearing 48X30 jeans. So even without the measurements, it has been easy for me to see my progress.

Yes, my doc took mine at each appt - but guess who was too goofy to ask for them? I'll have to send them a note to get them so I can keep track of that as well. Especially since I've GAINED a pound in the last two weeks. Ugh. I need all the positive stuff I can get!

No. My Dr never even examined me. Before, right after surgery or at post op.

I am not happy with him or his office even though he's supposed to be one of the top bariatric surgeons here.

You know my dr never did either. I came in for an issue after surgery and another of the drs examined my abdomen.

I guess the first time my actual dr saw me was at my surgery time.

My surgeon didn't take measurements, and I honestly don't care if he does or not. I have been taking my own measurements and tracking inches lost.

I wish I had thought of that. I wasn't even thinking of that. I was still trying to decide if I wanted the surgery for a long time. I knew I had to have my hernia surgery and they basically told me if I ever wanted WLS that this was the time to do it as it would be too difficult later.

My surgeons office just took a before picture. I was so excited about surgery all I did was take some pics of me. However that didn't work, because my husband deleted them off my phone. I was so mad.

I received a measurement chart in the back of my WLS binder to put measurements on. I also received a measurer (if that is a word - LOL!) when I registered at the hospital. I measured pre-op, 2 weeks post op and now every month. I can mail you a copy if you don't have it.

I'm gonna look in my binder and see if it's there, I don't think I remember seeing it. Thank you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
