I had a woman at my office say to me "What are you doing, you are losing so much weight!" I told her that I go to the gym 5x per week for at least an hour if not more, and that I log everything I eat in my fitness pal - this is the absolute truth. I do work my ass off at the gym and I do log all my food. She has no idea I had surgery, and I plan to keep it that way. A couple of people here do know, but I trust them not to blab all my business.

I told work my recent labs were very troublesome and that I had to have surgery for the hernia repair. I also had ulcers on my stomach and my blood work was truly high on all the bad numbers. So I let them know I was making major changes to turn around all of my numbers and that's it.

At an office birthday when I declined a piece of cake the boss said "look at how disciplined you are". And I said I have to be ...

@zanesmom I told my sisters the same thing! They're so judgemental I wasn't comfortable telling them. After my weight loss they are always questioning me it's anoying! God luck!

I've shared about my surgery at work, but only with a few people in my personal life (I work in another city and my two "groups" are very separate". I have been surprised to find that my coworkers have been more supportive and less judgmental than my close friends and family. They encourage me to walk every day at lunch and have made sure there are options for me at our frequent office potlucks. There may be some unkind comments from the larger work community, but the support I've received from my office mates has outweighed any negativity. Before I decided to share, I had planned to inform anyone who asked that I was on a portion controlled, low-carb diet - and boy is that ever true! :)

I told everyone I worked with and many were curious. All were supportive. Several co-workers even visited me in the hospital. I gladly answered all kinds of questions from co-workers about my experience and journey so far. The only thing I said I wouldn't do is justify the surgery to anyone. And I'm delighted that no one has tried to put me in that position.

I have shared with most of the people in my office. I work in a large building with many people. I am in contact with a lot of people everyday. I am 9 months out and down about 114 pounds. Even people I don't know will stop me an comment on how much I have lost. If I don't know them I don't offer an explanation, but everyone I do know has seen how hard I work at this and they know it is not the easy way out of being overweight. I exercise every day and avoiding the pitfalls of potluck food days. Like we were all told pre-op this is a tool and we will only get the results we want if we work hard. I think you will share with people you are comfortable with and it isn't anyone else's business.

Good Luck!

I'm still on short term disability for my sleeve but when I return to work this isn't something I'd be sharing. In 2011 I had lapband and my coworkers were very judgmental. "Why would you do that?" Bc I need help with losing weight! Lol..I feel it may be better to keep this to only close family members and my spouse, at least I know they will support me and not whisper over to the next cubicle "You know she had weight loss surgery?"

I told work and friends & family I went on a shake diet. It's true anyway for two weeks before. Worked out perfectly for me. Now I'm off the shakes & eating better & exercising. I have gotten to a of comments on how well I'm doing & how they see me walking before work & at lunch time.

I have told about 5-6 select people what I did and I will take it to the grave.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
