I have been on soft foods for 2 days and seems to be okay.

I have been eating foods with a lot of liquid and am chewing as much as I can and everything seems to be going down well.

My question is, will I know if anything goes wrong? Like will I feel it? Because I am worried that I might be doing damage but can't feel it? Just paranoid probably, I know!?

Thanks,

Nicky

@@Nicky Cleaver Please update your profile information when you have a chance.

Don't go looking for trouble, cause you don't want to find it. Stick within the guidelines that your doctor gave you for your post op diet. If you are on soft foods make sure you are cutting bites small pencil eraser size and chew chew chew. If you were causing any kind of damage you would be feeling pain.

When in doubt my best advice is always to consult your doctor. Never be afraid to give them a call even for a simple question. Filling out your profile with surgery information and posting a little more detail will help others to be able to give you better and more detailed support with any questions you might have.

Sounds like your doing well. Keep up the good work and congrats on your surgery!

Looks like you're about 6 weeks out so you should be able to eat most anything now. What do you mean you're eating foods with a lot of liquid?

At some point you will have your first stuck episode. I recall one of my first. I had bought a Wendy's chicken sandwich and was trying to drive and eat at the same time :o( Not a good idea). I was eating way too fast and the 2nd bite never cleared the stoma(band) and I continued to gobble my sandwich. Let me tell you, it takes some time to learn how to chew a lot and how mushy the food needs to be. Anyway, I was sliming all over the side of my car and trying to gag these huge bites out of my esophagus. I survived.

Normal stuck episodes start with a little pressure under your breastplate(ziphoid) and will continue to increase in pressure to the point of pain if you continue to eat food. And once your stoma is blocked, no amount of chewing will help the pain go away. Don't drink, it can't get through and will only back up into your esophagus. This is where the sliming(slime like in Ghostbusters) comes in. It's your esophagus trying to lubricate the channel to allow stuck food to pass through. You can hock it up in gobs but spit it out.

Sorry, that was rather visual and disgusting but it will happen. For me, it's not real painful, mostly just very uncomfortable.

Hope this helps and didn't make you regret your surgery ;op

Just had my first slime issue. Took a small bite of potatoe and i dont know what happened but i felt pain. Felt heartburn and sort of short of breath. Thought i had to burp and all of a sudden both hands were full of food and slime. No vomiting. Quite strange. Where did this food come from?? Earlier in the day i ate some potato Soup. I knew what was happening from everyones posts. Thank u !!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
