I've been on here since February but have never posted. I was sleeved March 10 2014. The 2 week Optifast diet was not bad at all. I stuck to it except that sometimes at night I just needed something with some flavor. So I ended up eating a table spoon of mustard ( I know its weird, but it tasted wonderful).

I started at 317 lbs. and lost 20 lbs. during the 2 week Optifast diet.

As of now I'm 198 lbs. ( Down about 120 Lbs. in 5 1/2 months)!!!

I was on Insulin and Byetta injections and MANY oils for diabetes but now I'm off all medication!!

My diet is very strict. I eat Protein and more protein (chicken and fish daily). I haven't had a slice of bread , potatoes, or rice since my surgery.

Physically, I can eat whatever I want (Just much less than I used to).

I exercise daily (walk/run a track 2.7 miles 5 days a week and lift weights 4 days)

In October my wife and I will be hiking the Appalachian trail for 3 days!

My surgery was super easy. I went in on Monday at 3PM. Had surgery at 5 PM. and went for a walk in the hospital at 7 PM.

The worst part was when they removed the drain tube (I think it may have been pressing on a nerve because that was the only thing that made me uncomfortable. I was released at 7 AM on Wednesday. Went grocery shopping on the way home from the hospital and was back at work on Saturday (I'm a manager so no real physical work, just a lot of walking). I made it 1/2 day. I started a regular work schedule on Monday and was very tired at the end of the day.

This surgery has been one of the best decision that I've made.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
