My gallbladder had already been removed but it is super common with sudden weight loss to get gallstones even without WLS. As for the Biotin I am only 3 weeks out but I am taking it and crossing my fingers but really I think that only helps with re-growth of hair. I don't think it will keep you from losing hair.

I needed my gallbladder out at 7 months post op. I ask my dr why he didn't have his patients use a gallstone preventative after surgery. He said because the chances are really very low that they would be needed (he gave me the actual statistic, but I can't remember) and when they did prescribe them in the past most people don't take them anyways... I was just super unlucky!

Personally after experiencing gallstones, I wish I had done some sort of preventative. It was the WORST pain in my life! Waking up from surgery was a cake walk compared to the gallstones... (I've never given birth, so I'm not comparing to that!)

I do take Biotin. I've still lost a lot of hair, but it is growing back quickly. Also my hair is a lot stronger and faster then it used to. I'm blond, so my hair is naturally very thin. Bonus: your nails are stronger too :-)

The dr. should give you a scrip for Actigall or something similar, ins. most likely will cover it, mine did.

As far as hair loss, it's inevitable, but can be minimized by getting all your Protein in. In the beginning that is difficult, just do your best and do not fill space in you new tiny tummy with anything NOT high in Protein. My tummy was so tiny, that I had NOTHING besides protein for 18 months, No veggies, salad, fruits, and especially not bread/pasta/potatoes/rice, still rarely, maybe 1 or 2 times a month will I have potatoes/pasta/rice or bread

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
