Pseudo-soda discovery

Recommended Posts

My partner discovered a little trick today to make a mock soda, so i thought id share! I'm not supposed to have it regularly, but this would be great for when I need a little treat. She took a can of La Croix sparkling Water (we had grapefruit in the house) and added a squirt of Dasani pink lemonade water flavoring. I just poured half into a little glass for myself.

It was great! Tasted just like some kind of diet soda, without being "too" diet tasting that would make me crave more soda. It was actually really refreshing! And all with 0 cals, fat, carbs etc.

I actually thought the carbonation is what is an issue here and not the soda. I love lacroix but I just gave all mine to my daughter. :( anyway I'm sure it tasted wonderful!!

It's the carbonation you're not supposed to have. Makes your tummy expand.

carbonation does not expand your stomach, per my doc. The real reason is that it takes away your Calcium and dehydrates you quicker. I drink a little sometimes and when I asked my nurse about it, that was the answer I received . She advised me not to , so I don't. On occasion I will have a few sips and then I'm good! Water is the best :0)

another thing that i see people in my workplace do (all post surgery at least 1 year) is they buy the bottles of diet cola and diet sprite flavoring for that Soda Stream machine, and just mix the flavoring Syrup with water- no carbonation or machine involved...i MAY try this down the road but i'm trying to just avoid ALL of my trigger foods including pop for as absolutely long as i can...

my NUT actually said the same thing; that soda doesnt make your pouch stretch. Rather that its just not a good food to get back into, esp if you had an issue with it pre-surgery. Its something I like to have infrequently as a treat, so I thought i'd share. Esp becuase i think if you make this in sparkling Water, wouldnt it still count toward your Water intake?

Obviously I wouldnt suggest making the above if soda was an issue for you in the past. I just thought it was a creative way to get some bubbles if you are feeling like it (and your NUT approves).
