DevineMissM 59 Posted August 10, 2014 My gastric sleeve surgery is scheduled for August 25th. I begin my pre-op diet tomorrow which is a high Protein low carb diet. I can't drink during a meal or 30 minutes after. No ban on coffee, only carbonated drinks. My liquid diet is for 24 hours before surgery. After reading some of the other posts I think I have it easy. Anyone know why this is? I'm 64 yo, and weigh 240lb at 5'2. I can't wait to meet the new me. I am so happy I found this app. Michele 2 BeagleLover and sylvia45 reacted to this
joatsaint 2,814 Posted August 11, 2014 (edited) I think it really depends on your surgeon. Based on the surgeon's experience, they know what works for their patients, based on the patient's health and starting weight. In addition to that, different insurance companies have different pre-op requirements that have to be fufilled before they will approve surgery. My ins. company required that I had previously been on a 6 month doctor supervised diet. If I hadn't had one of the qualifying co-morbidities (sleep apnea) I would have had to go through that 6 month diet. VSGAnn2014 12,992 Posted August 11, 2014 I've been told it also depends on your size -- and the size of your liver. If you're a big girl or boy, your liver needs to be shrunk more than the liver of someone 100 or 200 pounds lighter. So all pre-op instructions are not interchangeable. 1 DevineMissM reacted to this
JamieLogical 8,726 Posted August 11, 2014 Every surgeon and every nutritionist seems to have their own guidelines. The best advice anyone can give you is o follow YOUR surgeon's recommendations for YOU. You definitely have it easier than me! I have to start my pre-op diet a week from today and it's only 500 calories of Protein shakes, sugar-free jello/popsicles, and one green salad with calorie-free dressing per day for 15 days! 1 DevineMissM reacted to this
