I had my sleeve done on 8/4 so I'm 6 days out. I felt great in the hospital and was discharged the next day. I saw my surgeon on 8/7 for 1st post op visit and I told them I've been having a lot of gas and couldn't drink Protein because it made it worse. The next day I finally had a bowel movement and the gas finally went away but now I'm nauseous all day long especially when up and walking. I haven't been getting anything near the protein I should be having but I'm getting liquids down. I get up now for a few mins and I get really weak and have to lay back down. Has this happened to anyone else? Will it get better soon?

Are you drinking your Water? That's critical.

Call your surgeon and get some anti nausea meds that really helps

Try other Proteins as well. If you have a whole foods near you they sell sample packets. Maybe someone can drive you over and you can pick a couple different kinds.

I know what I liked pre op did not work for me post op. The taste buds changed

Ok thank you! I will definitely try different Protein Drinks.

I also am 6 days out. However my surgeon put me on a clear liquid for 3 weeks. She told me that eating anything with Protein will not be good to my new tummy. Perhaps it's the protein or dairy as I feel great! Good luck

Hi my mother is post op 4 days please tell me it gets better I guess because of the long plane ride it was a minor setback. She is having bad muscle spasms but only taking ibuprofen was allergic to toroidal. So on Tylenol, ibuprofen, gas x, Prilosec and still having trouble with liquids.

I don't believe it is safe for her to be taking NSAID's at all because they can cause a potential bleed in the stomach. Please check with her doc ASAP I wouldn't want her to cause a more serious complication. Everything will get better. Patience is the key to this process. I initially had horrible muscle spasms and I had to treat with a prescribed muscle relaxer and Vicodin and a heating pad. I had to compensate with some extra stool softener because these meds tend to constipate you. Always run meds and supplements by the surgeon and even the pharmacist in regards to the WLS surgery to make sure it's safe. I hope this helps...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
