How often do you get your food stuck?

Recommended Posts

I am ready to tear out my hair. I am afraid to get another fill, because food sticks regularly. I do everything I am told to do. Today my tuna ( no bread) got stuck. I have heard about a first bite syndrome, where things get stuck at first, then it's fine. Sometimes a few days will go by and nothing gets stuck, and then all of a sudden, everything I try to eat gets stuck.

The worse part of this whole thing is I am not losing weight. I exercise, don't drink with meals, count calories yada yada yada. I am going next Monday to have a resting metobolic test taken.

Like I said, I am really afraid to get another fill with the way food gets stuck, but I am sick to death of not losing.

Really stuck as in sliming stuck, not very often but I am paranoid about it happening. Like I'm on teaching rounds at the moment, and I just though it would be just my luck to have a major episode in a staffroom full of people I dont know. So I took Soup for lunch and I barely ate that. If in doubt I just dont eat. So I think its probably happened as rarely as it has becuase I"m super duper careful about it.

A bit uncomfortable stuck, I get that quite a lot, I do tend to suffer from first bite syndrome. But its nothing I cant fix just by putting down the fork for 5 minutes, nobody I was eating with would know it was happening.

PBing type stuck, twice in 18 months.

If I was having problems with food sticking there is no way on earth I'd have another fill. I just couldnt live with eating always being difficult. But that's just me.

Do you know why that first bite syndrome happens? It makes no sense to me.

Tonight I ate the two things I couldn't eat yesterday because they got stuck. Tonight I ate them with no problem. I wish I could make sense out of this band!

The band is very random. Yesterday I ate 1 bite of food because the one time I tried to eat, I ended up sliming over it. Of course, I also drank 1 drink of Protein shake because later in the day when I tried to drink one, I slimed over it too. Today I had some lobster bisque, white chicken meat with buffalo sauce, and chicken salad pan fried (faux melt) with a bit of cheddar on top, and pepperoni chips with cottage cheese.

Oh, and 8 out of 10 days I have first bite syndrome until 6 or 7 at night, and then I'm wide open.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A. Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
