Looking for friends with September surgery dates

Recommended Posts

Hi! My name is Beth and I am scheduled for my gastric bypass on September 10th, 2014.

I am looking for friends that would like to keep in touch to help each other thru this whole process. I have only been able to go to one support group meeting because of my hours at work (and honestly...it wasn't quite what I thought it would be).

I am trying to get healthier now to continue after the surgery. I have lost 25+ lbs in the 6 months my insurance made me wait and have worked up to walking 5 miles 2-3 times a week and 2 miles the rest of the days. I am also trying to stay away from the computer as much as possible. So, if anyone is interested in having a friend to text or a Facebook friend that is going thru the same things you are...please feel free to let me know!!

I have also have done something crazy, but motivational at the same time...and it will encourage me to get back into exercise full-force when I am able to after surgery. I have signed up to walk the Disney Half-Marathon on January 10th (exactly four months after my surgery) to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Foundation! Is anyone else willing to join me???

Hi there. My name is Stephanie. I dont exactly have a surgery date but I should be having my revision to rny in September. I have my psych evaluation next Friday and then my paperwork will be submitted to the insurance company. I was told it may take up to 2 weeks but shoulder be sooner. Then I have a pre-op class before surgery.

Hi my name is Alicia I have my surgery on the 12th getting so close :) I would love to have some support people going through it around the same time. I also have only made it to one support group due to work and it was nothing as I would have expected. Beth have you started your liquid diet or pre-op diet yet?

Yes, I started it a week ago. I have been miserable. Hungry, tired, craving everything...an my tummy is not liking the shakes too well at all. :( I am finding it really hard to keep up my walking traing too, which is the worst...I just wanna sleep this week away. lol But...instead I asked for OT at work to try an keep myself occupied, motivated, and have some extra money. :)

How are you doing so far?

Hello....

I'm having my surgery on Sept. 8th. I would love to keep in touch and follow each other through the process.

I started the liquid diet on Monday 9/1 and so far so good.

I am getting more into my pre-op diet and actually enjoying my shakes now. My NUT gave me a list of recipes and they are awesome (Ginersnap--my favorite!--, Blueberry Muffin, banana Cream Pie...yummy!). I work nights, so I do find it hard to plan when to eat (especially if I have an appt and it messes up my sleep cuz then I'm hungry). 4 more days left...I'm so excited!!! How is everyone else doing this week?

I struggled with my liquid diet the first few days and now it's a breeze. I do have to keep my self busy though or when I get bored I want to eat. I am glad to be down weight and old clothes are starting to fit so that part is exciting. It's crazy how fast it really comes only 6 more days :)

I know! It's like we waited for soooo long for the days to pass and it's so close now! I getting really excited and a little nervous. I think I'm more nervous because I have to work until 6 hrs before my surgery (Wednesday morning YAY!), and there are still things I want done or need to do...and not enough time to do them now. (or not enough money). Plus I am having the last minute "food cravings"...but my Dr warned me not to due to the necessity for liver-shrinking to make the surgery easier and to have a better recovery. (But buffalo wings are definitely calling me lol)

I know exactly what you mean even things that I can't stand are sounding good. But knowing the reasoning behind why we have to do it makes it a little easier. I would rather not have damage to my liver and be stuck with a drain in for it.

And I get the having or feeling like there is not enough time to prepare everything I have to get done. I have two kids under 5 years old and trying to remember everything I have to get in place for them has been a bit stressful.

My name is Steve and I'm scheduled for surgery on Monday, September 15th.

Yesterday afternoon I got on the scale out of curiosity and found I have reached my pre-surgery goal weight. That was a relief, because my surgeon will absolutely not operate if I haven't taken off the required weight.

I've been buying my post-surgery items to be ready for the journey. I got sugar-free lifesavers and Chapstick (for dry-mouth in the hospital), and Gas-X strips to help with the gas after surgery. I also found a Water bottle that I guess will be practically attached to my hand from now on...

I've been walking a couple of miles per day. I hear that really helps after surgery to keep the pain down, as well as getting rid of the painful air pockets left over afterward.

I get my surgery time at my pre-op appointment on Friday. Then, I have two-days of liquids before surgery. It's getting exciting!

Wishing you all the best!

Yes I had the RNY. And things are still going good for me. I have been able to get in a lot of walking in and haven't needed pain meds much. Only downside right now is my temp is a little elevated but the docs do seem to be worried about it at this point.

But over all it's going great you guys will all do great when your time is here!

Hi guys! My name is Alisa. I am just now checking in to this group. My surgery is in just one week, on the 24th.

So glad to hear you are doing so well! Looking forward to getting to know you and to forming a support group with the other September babies.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
