Average weight lost week 1?

Recommended Posts

This is my first post on this site. I was banded on August 4th 2014 and the first few days I was wondering if I made a mistake. I stopped the pain meds after the second day and was drinking Protein Drinks and some broth(boring). I am some ready for the "mushy" stage I'm tired of sweet Protein Shakes. I have lost a total of 20 pounds this first week without any excercise is that normal?

I was banded on July 30, and I've not really lost a whole lot. I guess it depends on the person and their body composition.

Thanks for the reply. I've been reading various forums and did not know what was normal for most people. I guess you are right and it depends on the individual.

20 pounds in the first week is almost unheard of. That much weight loss is almost impossible, but it suggests you are losing fluids at a rapid pace. My concern would be that you may become dehydrated. I'd suggest you call your doctors office and advise of them what you are experiencing. Play it safe!!!

I've been making sure to put in a ton of fluids. I was concerned about getting dehydrated. I plan on calling my doctor tomorrow.

TxLee...20...Geesh, that is a lot in one week! I would settle for that in a month LOL!! However, I do have a friend of mine who dropped most of his weight in the very beginning and he kept it off. Wishing you the best.

Good idea -- that is a big drop. Once I saw the hospital bill and what the whole thing cost I decided to never hesitate calling and putting my medical professionals to work. I think they like to have that patient communication, too -- the band requires a lot of that initially. At day four or five I dropped six or seven -- I think it had to do with the retention letting go. Hope you're feeling good. Great to have the surgery behind you now and whole new life ahead. I have so much energy now it's crazy. And down another size in jeans. Yippee! Best wishes to you....

I had my surgery on August 4th too. My Dr. said I could start soft foods yesterday. Although I think I'm going to stick with Soups right now. Everything else still seems to hard to swallow. I am hoping to find support on this site to guide me through my journey. I have lost 20 pounds since I started the 2 week diet til now. Good luck on your journey.

Hey! I was banded on Aug 5th... I move on to the next stage 10 days post op which would be this Friday. I know the feeling of thinking you've made a mistake! I was reading tons of posts about all the complications and started upsetting myself. I got over that QUICK when I thought of staying the same size! Now let's talk about this 20 pounds.... GOOOOOO YOU!! If you are staying hydrated and getting all your Protein in I don't see how that could be an issue. However, if you're still concerned give your surgeon a quick call. Best of luck doll

No offense, but I do not consider weight loss within the first week, perhaps the first month, real weight loss...

I know it's nice, and feels good to see the scale move down, but reality will set in eventually and there are too many people here come back and say how frustrated they are.......they're at a stall, etc...

I lost weight the first month, post op diet, liquids, mushies, etc. even had my first fill at 4 weeks. Was also allowed to go back on solid foods at that 4 week mark......and everything I lost in those 4 weeks I gained back, plus I gained a few, just like every diet I have ever been on prior to surgery.......at the 8 week mark, I went in for my 2nd fill. I was upset with myself, but my Dr. just laughed at me, saying I didn't "understand it" yet, I had a lot to learn to be truly successful.

My first 2 weeks i lost 13 lbs and 23 lbs total before my first fill. I got my fill a month ago so i'm not sure how much more i've lost. I think it depends on the person. Good luck on your journey!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
