Average Weight Loss?

Recommended Posts

Hi I am new to group. I had surgery on July 15th. My weight loss is 18lbs. Just wondering is that is average or slow. Thanks!

It's not really relevant. Everyone is different and lose at different rates.

I agree. Everyone loses different, but if it will make you feel better, I lose on average about 1.3 pounds a day, but i have had a bypass.

Hi Pirate,

For us super fatties, we lose faster than people with lower BMI, so a lot of people in the 300+ lb range will lose about a lb every day or two whereas someone in the 250 range will lose slightly less. It really depends a lot on your metabolism, caloric intake, and how much you are able to devote yourself to walking / working out. A lot of people experience a huge initial loss of about 10 lbs after returning from the hospital and voiding themselves of the fluids they were filled up on / the glycogen that was stored inside muscles. Best luck. Any weight loss is awesome!

I'm not sure. I had my surgery July 21st and I have lost 22lbs so far. My doctor said I'm doing great and right on track. I do think it varies per patient though.

I had gastric sleeve three week ago, closer to one month, or rather reaching my one month check up.

my first check up I lost 16 pounds which was amazing, the next two weeks I lost around 2lb in a week :-( not happy because I'm eating 300 calories a day some days a little over, now today three weeks later I got on the scale and it says I gained three pounds? I don't understand, Is my surgery bad? Am I doing something wrong I just don't want to go through all that again.

I read internet horror stories and now I'm scared, I"m waiting on someone from the doctors office to call me back, but nothing this far, I'm totally freaking out, has this happened to anyone else.

You calories intake might be way to low. 300 a day? I dont think thats even enough Protein intake. Most Proteins are about 20g per 150calories. Unless you're using a pro series. They're around 20-25g per 100 cal. 800-1000 would be my guess for you. Also make sure you drinking all your liquids for the day.

My conclusion came from all the questions I asked my Surgeon & NUT. At my 1 month post op appointment. He was shocked I was still doing the 800 cal a day. Told me to stop. Just avoid liquid calories and only 3 meals a day. 7 weeks post op down 85lbs.

Touch base with your nutritionist. I know sometimes it is hard to eat with the restriction of your new tummy, but you need to make sure you are following your surgeon's guidelines. At one month my nutritionist suggested I should be eating between 800 and 1200 calories a day. On the days I go to the gym I get closer to the 1200 calorie range. One rest days, closer to that lower end.

I think we all have days of doubt where we get on the scale and see it go up because of Water retention due to hormones or we slip and have a bite of a cookie and think it is the end of the world. And we think if we stall out that the sleeve must be broken. The sleeve isn't broken and will do what it is supposed to do. Your body just needs to adjust and sometimes resets itself by holding on to weight for a few days (or even a week or two - I had a 12 day stall two weeks after my sleeve). Keep on drinking your Water. Walk as much as you can every day, get your 60 grams or more of Protein.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
