jjinWA 511 Posted August 10, 2014 I Know we are supposed to eat slow, chew our food well and never drink while eating our meals. But I struggle with all of this daily! I wonder if I ned to sit down to the dinner table with my newspaper and read an article between each bite. Ha. Anyone with helpful suggestions would be appreciated! GummyTummy 154 Posted August 10, 2014 Hi Jjin, A couple things that might work - get a baby spoon or utensil to use while at home. Forces you to take smaller bites, also, eat on a schedule even and especially if you aren't hungry ( unless you physically feel full ) You are more likely to eat fast if your brain is telling your body, hey I am hungry this person hasn't fueled me in a while. Make sure you are eating your Proteins first and YES, your article reading sounds like a great plan! 1 macman reacted to this
Bufflehead 6,358 Posted August 10, 2014 I second the recommendation for the Eat Slower app. I used that religiously (set the timer to 45 seconds between bites) for several months after I was released from full liquids. I don't need it anymore but when I did, it really, really helped me. 1 invalidID reacted to this
LisaNLasVegas 91 Posted August 10, 2014 Put your utensils down after every bite. Cut your food, put the food in your mouth, put the utensils down, and chew your food and enjoy it! Don't pick them up again until you are ready for another bite. Maybe even have some conversation in between. I am always the last one finished!
heartfeltlaugh 9 Posted August 10, 2014 Just started using the Eat Slower app and it is terrific! Thanks!
jjinWA 511 Posted August 10, 2014 I will download this app today. I really need to slow down. I take a few bites and I am soon in pain cuz I ate too fast and did not chew my food well enough. So of course that makes me want to take a drink. I have been able to control the drinking with my meals at this point. I just do not have Water at the table. BUT the rest of it is definitely a work in progress. Thanks everyone for your comments. They were helpful!
Pkdvm 175 Posted August 10, 2014 This has been the hardest thing for me so far. I'm sitting here in pain because, yet again, I ate my scrambled egg too quickly and Sleevie is not happy. I'm going to download this app right now and thanks for the tip.

sandymom 16 Posted August 12, 2014 I just downloaded the app, too. It is set for 1 min between bites. Is that what everyone is using? If not, how do you shorten the time? Thanks!
Bufflehead 6,358 Posted August 12, 2014 (edited) @@sandymom on the version I use (iPhone) there is a slider bar you can use to adjust the time, right under the picture of the plate. I set mine to a 45 second interval, I thought that was plenty. Also, if you tap the little i right above the spoon, you can change the sound used to indicate that it's time for a bite - just in case you missed that! It's not obvious at all. Love the app but wish they had the standard set up with a little gear to access settings. Edited August 12, 2014 by Bufflehead
Ktfrlnd104 0 Posted August 24, 2014 There is a fork on the market called the "Happy Fork" May be spelled Happi, it is a fork that tracks how fast you are eating and vibrates when you start eating too fast. There is a program with the fork and you can log on to it and see your progress and I'm assuming change the rate between bites? I don't have it myself but may purchase it when I get off this liquid diet. Three more weeks until I can have soft foods!
