How Long of a Stay?

Recommended Posts

I have my Surgery booked @ TWLC with Dr. Mumford on June 14th and I was wondering if I need to go a day early for for blood work or anything like that? Or if I can arrive late the night before the surgery? Also how long I need to stay afterwards?

My Surgery is on a Thursday and I was planning flying out Wednesday and returning Sat. Morning! I am wondering if this is going to be okay before I book some flights because there is a seat sale on! I tried to phone the Centre but Rose is gone for a couple of days to a Convention!

IF anyone has any insight would be greatly appreciated!

HI there.. I am from Thunder Bay, I had my surgery at the TLBC. I flew up on a Wednesday, just to figure out where I was going, had surgery on the Thursday, and left Toronto Saturday. Thats what the TLBC recommended- at least 1 day in TO after surgery(would have been different if I lived in TO but since I was from outta town).

Good luck with your up coming surgery!!!

Robyn

Good luck,

Don't worry about the blood work you get that done a week or two before the surgery and send that in to your Dr.

The SWLC generally likes you to see the surgeon the day before to answer any last minute questions and to show you a "demonstration" of the band. I couldn't get a flight in time for the appt and Dr.Cobourn happened to be in my area a few weeks before so he gave me the low down. It really wasn't anything you couldn't miss. As for travelling, I had my surgery Wed and left Fri and was absolutely fine.

I didn't have to do blood work or anything the day before.

I ended up staying 2 nights. But that is only because my surgery time was pushed back til almost 6pm (cause of an emergency not related to WLS). And by the time i was done, I just remember seeing CSI Miami on TV and that comes on at 10pm. So anyhow..

I was told I need to be there atleast 24hrs. I stayed until 6pm - Took some liquid tylenol and threw it up. They just decided since it was late and I threw up (which can happen) to stay another day.

Well I have decided to stay from Wednesday until Saturday! Thank you so much for your replies! I am going to see if there is some special show my and my girlfriend (who is coming with me) can see while we are there! We are from Sask and we would love to be able to say we did more than stay in a hotel for the whole 3 days we are in Toronto! Thanks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
