I just had the sleeve done 2 days ago. I'm in extreme pain from the gas buildup. I also can't seem to drink much. Every time I drink even Water my stomach burns. Is this normal?

I don't remember any burning, other than at the incision site. As far as the gas, heating pads worked miracles for me. Some people swear by those gas x strips. Hope you feel better sooner, rather than later. Remember, all this discomfort WILL pass! Good luck.

Thank you! I know it's all worth it. When the liquid hits my stomach it burns and then kinda sends pains throughout my gut. It's really hard to get my fluids in

The gas pains are normal, walk as much as you can tolerate and use gas x strips. I don't remember burning, hubby n 1 r 10 days out. Are you taking a PPI?

I had surgery on Tuesday and on Thursday I woke up with the shoulder pains. I took 2 Gas X strips and used a heating pad and they went away in about 1 1/2 hours.

Had no issues with stomach burning or getting fluids down. Well, it takes me about an hour to drink a cup of liquid, but I don't have any side effects.

It will pass before you know it. The first 3 days were rough for me and hubby but you WILL start to feel better very soon. If not, talk to your surgeon.

Thanks guys. I think I will let it go a couple more days and if the burning/cramping doesn't go away I will call the doctor. I was able to get maybe 20oz of Fluid in today :(

Nellie, get yourself one of those little 1oz medicine cups like the size that comes with nyquil and literally sip sip on those. The burning is not normal but if you are taking too large of swallows it can feel like you swallowed a rock. Also, forgo lady like tenancies and BURP ALL THE TIME. You have to walk to get that gas out, and you need to be able to drink at least 50 oz of Water a day or you are going back to the hospital with dehydration. You need fluids to heal. Good luck and keep us posted.

( most surgeons say you have to have 64 oz of Water but 50 will at least keep you out of the hospital )

Nellie, Water made me nauseous and I couldn't drink it until around day 7. Try crystal light or Powerade zero. I used the one ounce cups too to make sure I would sip. Keep walking for the pain and I would use a heating pad. When you are just sitting, move your shoulders around to help relieve the gas. It's okay to burp and toot. I am 12 says out and a friend kept telling me each day gets a little better. It's hard to believe now, but it does. I am already back to working with our vinyl business and getting ready for my new group of First Graders. I held a pillow when I walked because my tummy would jiggle and hurt my incisions. Take it nice and slow. I started walking around the living room worked up to venturing out through the rest of our house and then to outside. If you have a loved one to walk with you, it seems that much easier. Keep moving...it gets better.

20 oz is not enough liquid to keep you hydrated. Burning is not normal. You should call your surgeon. Also get a few bottles of Pedialyte at the grocery store. It's like Gatorade on steroids. My doctor put me on it Thursday for severe dehydration. He told me a 32 oz bottle is the equivalent of a full IV bag but for only $6. It made a tremendous difference for me. I was sleeved 7/31. Good luck and don't wait to seek help.

Today the gas has subsided some. The burning is still there but not as often. I will force myself to drink more today. Or at least try. I woke up with a severe headache so I know I'm on my way to dehydration. I will have to sip all day today to keep away from the hospital

You need to drink Gatorade or pedialyte, you are starting to dehydrate. Water was hard to drink the 1st few days but Gatorade was easier to swallow n tolerate. Wishing you the best, hang in there.

Warm ginger tea felt really good in my stomach around day 3. I avoid plain Water since leaving the hospital because it bothered my stomach, too. Good luck!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
