I have surgery the 22 of august and I'm trying to get prepared does anyone have any suggestion for what I need to buy and stock up on for a couple weeks?? Protein Shakes from Walmart you can buy?? Broths? Clear liquids? Thanks

I am three days out. I like the vanilla Premier shakes at costco. 18 run about $24.99 and have 30 g of Protein and fit all of the nutritionist's guidelines. I also bought chicken broth there in cans, in a case of about 12 and paid around $6. "Clear liquids" also means plain nonfat greek yogurt, sugar-free Jello, both if touch you can add Protein Powder to, Sugar-free Popsicles, etc. My doctor wants me to get in 64 oz od H2O each day, which includes all of the above and it is hard! Especially when an ounce gets sipped over 15 minutes. There is also some sugar free protein pudding sold at Vitamin Shoppes that is pretty decent and I like the Isopure Liquid Protein, though it can be a little sweet.

I had a rough time with the surgery, mainly due to nurses and not to the procedure. I recommend you try and heal as quickly as you can in the hospital to get home where things will go much better for you. Oh, and be sure, you've all your meds at home before you go. My doc did change a prescription I me while I was in the hospital and I had to stop on huge way home to get another, which was definitely not fun.

I am still recovering, but so far once I got home, I felt a lot better.

One last thing, when you do stock up, be sure that you get enough to last you like two weeks. It will help if you have everything at home during the first phase until you go on pureed foods. Best of luck to you on the 14th!

My nutritionist gave me a shopping list, so I'll repeat some of it here. However, you might want to check with your nutritionist as we all seem to have slightly different programs.

Pill Crusher - only necessary if you will need to continue taking your pills

chewable Multi-vitamins NO Gummy

Chewable Calcium with Vitamin D

Protein Supplement shakes (> 15 gm of protein < 6 gm of sugar)

food Processor / Blender

Baby Food (hi protein)

banana (ripe)

broth (instant/canned)

Chicken/Ground Beef (must be put in blender)

chicken - canned

Cottage cheese (low-fat)

Cream of Wheat Cereal (make with milk)

eggs

Fish (fresh or canned)

Greek Yoghurt

Skim Milk

No added sugar puddings, ice pops

Applesauce fruit-only (no added sugar)

Diet Snapple, G2, Vitamin Water Zero, Tea Bags

I don't have a Walmart or a costco near where I live, so I bought my Protein Shakes online at Unjury.com, that's also where I got my chewable vitamins and calcium.

Hope this is helpful. Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
