Nancysgastricbypass 6 Posted August 9, 2014 A friend of mine said before her surgery her dr asked her to remove her nail polish. I was planning on a pedicure before my surgery and I wear acrylics. Has anyone ever been told this?
5BeautifulDays 68 Posted August 9, 2014 My understanding of my surgeon's rule is that they want clear nails (but acrylics are ok...maybe just clear ones?) on your hands for the pulse oxymeter. Toes can be painted.
Bianca J 165 Posted August 9, 2014 I had nails during surgery just to a light color u should be fine. Ur nails won't even be near anything
Peggy Jean 41 Posted August 9, 2014 I have had over 3 dozen surgeries and this is the first time i've been told not to wear polish. Most of the time the nurses love my nails and i've never had a problem getting my pulse through the bright colors. But, I have taken all my acrylic nails off for the surgery and will replace them with gels after surgery.
ScreamingForMySupper 4 Posted August 11, 2014 We were not allowed to wear either nail polish or acrylics at the hospital. I guess if you want to be sure you should call your own hospital and check with them. I got all these flyers to get prepared and it was in there as well. jtickle 295 Posted August 12, 2014 They want your nails clear so the pulse ox can read the amount of oxygen in your blood. I'm a respiratory therapist, nothing is more annoying then painted fingernails. They must be clear no paint what so ever. I couldn't have acrylic nails at all for my surgery. Racewalker48 41 Posted August 12, 2014 My hospital didn't care about my toes or acrylics, they just wanted me to have no colored nail polish on my fingers for the pulse ox. It worked out great as I wear acrylics with clear polish.
Danny'sGirl 21 Posted August 16, 2014 Just got my pre-op instructions. No finger nail polish. Toes are ok.
ppw 18 Posted August 17, 2014 I was told to lighten my shade of gel polish which I did. There was no problem with my nails being painted a light shade.
