EmmaKathleen 28 Posted August 9, 2014 I have been experiencing really bad heartburn every day since my surgery 3 weeks ago. I never had this problem before and it's starting to affect my quality of life. Has anyone else dealt with this? Does it go away? How do you deal? Any advise or experiences welcome! 1959JimmyJames 61 Posted August 9, 2014 What does your doctor say? You need to stay on top of this and get it fixed because it can lead to some real problems. Good luck.
Gibble 28 Posted August 9, 2014 I have had problems with this before and after surgery. Call your Dr. there are meds for this that really do help. There's not really any thing else that works.
woo woo 872 Posted August 9, 2014 You should be taking something everyday for heartburn/acid. If your doc didn't give you anything I would suggest calling and asking for a prescription.
EmmaKathleen 28 Posted August 9, 2014 Thanks. Just talked to my doctor and he said it's usually because when your stomach gets smaller there are higher pressures inside of it and it should go away with time. Learn something new every day. He's calling in a prescription for Nexium.
lylabelle 257 Posted August 10, 2014 Good good. My doc prescribes a PPI for everyone for a full 3 months after surgery just in case. Its important not only for quality of life but for healing! You'll feel much better once your on it.
Healthy for Life 11 Posted August 10, 2014 I have to take pepcid twice a day for a month post-op and then once a day for life as prescribed by my doctor.
marfar7 1,533 Posted August 11, 2014 I'm a year out and when I try to stop my Rx Protonix, I wake up with reflux. Plan on taking it forever. I had it before my sleeve (had a slipped band) but my dr assumed that when he took my band out, my reflux would go away. No such luck. Had I known this, I might've chosen bypass. But it's a small pill just once a day. No biggie! Good luck!
