Norah Mitchel 1 Posted August 9, 2014 I've had the gastric sleeve and 7 months out. Didn't get my period in two months! At first everything was normal, just the past two months. Anyone went through this? Is it normal?
lovedXJesus 27 Posted August 9, 2014 I have not gone through that personally. But my sister had RNY surgery about 6 years ago and it put her into menopause. She was 45 at the time. I believe that surgery can do that to a woman's body. Any surgery, not just WLS. Still, you might want to check in with your GYN just to make sure everything is ok. thesuse2000 698 Posted August 9, 2014 My cycle got weird after surgery too. Soon after my last period ended I had days of spotting. I went to the gyno to check things out and she thought that most likely I didn't ovulate last month, causing the irregularity. There are various reasons why I may not have ovulated - the stress of the surgery being one, my age (46) being another. She ran some labs and checked my thyroid levels - I have hypothyroidism and take replacement therapy every day. My labs just came in yesterday and were WAY off - right now I'm hyPERthyroid - meaning way too much thyroid hormone. So that may have played a role too. And good I found out so I can adjust my meds as needed. I searched on this site about the bleeding and found a lot of threads on this - so you are not alone. But I think it's always good to check things out - as I mentioned that's how I found out about my thyroid levels. I asked my surgeon and PCP if I should get my thyroid levels checked soon and they both said no - well, they were wrong.
FairySleeve 297 Posted August 9, 2014 I'm recently one month post-op and I had no period for the entire time. I heard that the WLG may increase the ferilization, I didn't know that it ccould go the other way around!!
RNBSN786 206 Posted August 9, 2014 The reasons for our cycles to change after surgery is due to being low in Iron. So are your iron levels low? My period cycle is completely off and I never know when I will get it and how long it will last for. I have started to take iron regularly now but even then my period skips at time. That's why they say not to get pregnant for at least 18 months after surgery. Because you are losing and your body is adjusting. 1 FairySleeve reacted to this

I will be 43 in a few months, pre op my period circle was around 36 days, I think I probably reach menopause early hehe. I'll see my gynaecologist soon to check on Stacy (my cyst) on the left ovary.
