I said goodbye to Chinese food today. Nothing I think I will want again except maybe some wonton Soup ...so that's good. I've been allowing once a week to eat a goodbye meal. I'm dreading saying goodbye to Indian food. Has anyone actually been able to eat spicy food after. I mean like post op a year? It's not actually bad for you it's grilled chicken and spices..either way I'll miss it.

Spicy refried Beans was one of the first things I started on purees. Poached egg with spicy Indian ketchup was another early favorite. And spicy thai tuna pureed with Sriracha sauce! I never even considered waiting a year. Spicy food has never given me the tiniest bit of trouble post-sleeve, and I do like it hotter than a lot of people (I mean normies, not even wls people) can handle ;)

What you are doing is called a food funeral. I did it and a lot of folks on here did too. I thought that you could not eat regular food after surgery.

But as time went on I realized that you can. If you make good choices. Protein first then veggies, fruit and lastly carbs. Our mind change is the key. Making healthier choices in the food we eat. Making it healthier for us.

The kicker is that after surgery you may find that your tastes have changes some. You desire different food then you did before.

Right now I am on a Cauliflower kick. I know who does that. But it is true. I eat so differently now. But I still enjoy Chinese food on occasion. You can too! :)

I eat iIndian food all the time, at 6 weeks post op. I always eat spicy food. When I was on Clear liquids I made broth with (Chinese) hot oil.

When I asked my doc, pre op, if I would be able to eat Indian food (He is Indian.) he said, "People in India have this surgery all the time." That was funny and made me feel better.

I love spicy food! Yum yum!

No need to say goodbye to anything so change that mindset. You will most likely be able to eat anything, you just might not want to. I'm an oddball and I can no longer eat more than a nibble of bread, Pasta, rice or ice cream, all of which used to be favorites. They make me feel like holy hell. In fact, I feel so bad after, I no longer WANT them and I don't miss them at all. I figure that I ate more than my share of these foods over the last 42 years, I've exhausted my supply. My body says no more and that's ok. I'm fit, healthy and look darn good in my clothes. No bread is a small price to pay.

i had a TON of food funerals and in the process gained about 8 unneeded pounds.

now 7 wks out from surgery i'm on a 'regular' diet and eating all foods. chinese is actually a GREAT option of you focus on lean meats and veg. My bariatric program also encourages ALL healthy foods in specific quantities, so the other day i had chinese green Beans with chicken and about 1 tbsp of brown rice. it was awesome!!

I'm almost two weeks post op, and I had some Soup that turned out to be spicier than I thought it would be last night for dinner. I was a little nervous, but it didn't upset my stomach at all. That was accidental, but I did ask my surgeon about it and he said people in India have this surgery done and continue to eat spicy food with no problem.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
