So someone told me if I can not meet the requirements for wls because I can not provide proof of 5 year weight history, that I can switch to another insurance during open enrollment who does not require this and continue the process. I. E. Signing up for insurance directly through the carrier instead of through my employer. Does this make sense? Can I do that? I'm trying to keep my options open.

Hi I would investigate before during this my friend switch insurance and she now has to wait a year, research your insurance as well as the new one and find out good luck.

Don't know who told you that and what circumstance. But if your employer coverage denies you, you appeal and are unable to win, then purchase insurance through obamacare but do the research and confirm if they will cover and requirements.

No need to drop employer coverage.

Also, if you switch to health insurance through the ACA be very careful that weight loss surgery is included. There are only a handful of states with WLS plans and most states exclude it.

Thank you everyone for you response. I may just be over thinking it at this point. I feel "desperate" and just trying to do too much.

I am curious as to why you need documentation of 5 years of being overweight that's a new one.

According to the insurance woman, uhc requires that under my employer which is jpmc.

Most insurance from what I know only require 2-3 year of your highest weight from that year. Like everyone said do your research about the procedure that it will be covered. Because 5 year is a new one for me too.

Call your insurance yourself. Get a copy of the medical policy and see what the requirements are

Then also go get some pictures of yourself over the five years and see if they will accept it

Lastly I am sure you had an emergency room, urgent care, whatever - go gather those medical records. And your ob/gyn

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
