Hi--I had my first fill on April 13th and while I don't think I have as much restriction as I should, I can notice a difference if I eat slowly and eat my Protein first. Fluids will not stay in your pouch and if you are drinking the majority of your protein that may be why you are more hungry. Is there a reason why you are not eating solid protein?

I agree with elm, make sure you are eating solid Protein first. That will keep you full longer. That being said, it is quite common for you to be hungry after a fill or even a few fills until you reach your sweet spot. I would just go with the flow and try not to overeat until that time. Julie

Also, my Doctor has said that sometimes it can take up to a week for your stomach to adjust and feel the restriction from a fill. Hang in there!

I feel the same way Tnix. I just had my first fill on the 12th of april. I go in for my next fill on the 9th of May. I try not to get myself worked up but I keep worrying that its going to take too damn long to get there. I just dont want to ruin the hard work I've done so far (-37 pounds). As much as I've yo-yo'd over the years I know that gaining the weight back is a scary posibilty. I also worry that i'll never get my perfect fill. Anyway I try not to think about it too much and just take it one day at a time and hope that everything keeps going good.

I am in the exact same boat as all of you. I had my first fill on Monday. An added measure of stress is that according to the Doctors scale I have only lost 19 pounds but according to mine I have lost 26. I keep telling myself not to worry about the number but as my appetite hasn't really decreased since the first fill of (1 cc) I am still worried. The doctor said it usually takes people up to 3cc's to feel any major difference and I have a second fill in two weeks but I don't want to see the numbers climbing. I am young and I figured the first few montsh would be easy but now I am starting to get depressed and lose motivation...:)

Yeah what I don't like about my dr is that I have to wait a month between each fill. That can seem like an eternity when you're hungry..lol!

It's forever and a day!! Then I was late for my last fill appt.(bad traffic jam....sat still for almost 40 minutes!!) and they cancelled my appt! Was able to reschedule for 2 days later but it's an hour and 20 minute drive one way. Waiting is good though, sometimes it takes a week or more for the fill to kick in.

As for being hungry so soon.....just had my 3rd fill and it's the first time in years I don't get hungry 30 minutes after I eat! Please take your time and work with your band, give it time to heal and adjust in between each fill. You WILL get to the point where you aren't hungry all the time. Until then, if you're going to snack, try to snack healthy. Good Luck!!

i am eating solid Protein as well but in the last week i have just noticed that i am hungrier and able to eat more - give some ideas of what you eat

I try to eat at least 20 grams of Protein per meal. Here's a sample work day:

Breakfast: Extreme Protein 32 Bar (I'm always rushed in the morning so this is the easiest option)

Lunch: Ocean's Light tuna salad with some carrot sticks and l/f yogurt.

Snack: Apple with 1 tablespoon of Peanut Butter. (I find an afternoon snack helps tide me over til dinner, especially if I'm going to the gym after work).

Dinner: 3 oz of chicken, fish etc. and some veggies.

I try not to drink 30 mins before meals and 60 mins after meals. Sometimes it's tricky to get in enough Water if I don't pay attention.

This is what I eat on my 'best behaviour' days. Believe me, I have plenty of days where I don't make wise choices and then I find I am more hungry.

I also make cottage cheese pancakes quite a bit. (sautee some chopped onion, mix 1 egg slightly beaten, 1/2 c l/f cottage cheese, 2 tbl flour, salt/pepper and add to onion. Cook mixture the way you'd make a pancake) They are quite filling, have lots of protein and low carbs/fat.

Hope this helps. I'd welcome any input from more experienced bandsters. :)

How do you work up the courage for the procedure, I've been contemplatng it since feb., joined Curves to exercise but the pounds don't seem to be going anywhere, can't get a handle on dieting. I keep thinking the lap band is my last hope. I have a 2 year old (and a 16 and 13 year old) and am afraid of surgury.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
