I'm actually starting my 4th week today. Taking a little vacay. Everyone's going for ice cream. I'm tempted. Any thoughts?

Is ice cream one of the foods you can have a little of? For me, it's like when an alcoholic says they can have one drink. One spoon of ice cream would make me lose my self control, therefore it wouldn't be worth it. Only you can know if you can handle it.

Also, my nutritionist encourages me to try "new foods" at home first. Not everything is as easy to digest!

During my 1st 6 months, I would occasionally eat 1 big tablespoon full of ice cream. I was on an 800 calorie diet, so I had to be careful about what I ate.

I'm not sure my tummy can handle it. I had Greek yogurt this morning cafe mocha flavor. It was incredibly sweet. I've been told there's sugar free vanilla. I'll try that maybe. I guess I'll just try it and see what happens. If I can't handle it I'll know immediately.

Frozen bananas...chop them up and freeze them. Then whirl them until smooth and creamy. A good substitute.

There are many recipes online as well,

Four weeks out, I wouldn't want to start adding all that sugar and carbs.

I admit that 2 months ago, I tried ice cream, and it took me two months to stop having some 2-3 times a week after that. Potato chips and ice cream stalled me for two months. I could've been to goal.

I say...why start with that stuff so soon? Later on down the road, sure, have a little. But I'd stay true to the Protein plan at your very early stage. Don't you want this VSG to be a true success...even early on?

PS: Ice cream is a slider food. Next thing you know, you'll have slowly ingested half a pint without even knowing it.

I have a huuuuuuge sweet tooth!! I actually received this advice from another sleeved. There is a machine called a Yonanas, it basically turns frozen fruit into a frozen yogurt consistency! It's amazing!! My favorite is strawberry banana. Highly recommended, you can order it on Amazon, I have also seen it a Walmart and Bed Bath and Beyond. Awesome substitute for ice cream!

I had a spoonful of butter pecan ice cream today. It was actually underwhelming. Ice cream has never really been an issue for me so I don't see it becoming a regular thing.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
