Hey everyone. I have had my band for a year and have been very successful this far. Except for one little thing. I have been stuck at the same weight for a while. I only have about 23lbs until I get to my goal but I can't seem to break thru this plateau for anything!! I am def in my green zone as far as adjustments. I have 8.8 cc's in my band. I only eat about once a day cause I'm truly never hungry and I try to exercise 3-4 times a week. Any tips or helpful hints to help me get back on the losing track?

It could be you are not eating enough, or eating the wrong foods.

Make sure you are getting the recommended amount of Protein that your body needs... Proteins first.

If you are only eating once a day that could be a problem. A lap bander usually is advised to eat four meals a day, spread four hours apart.

Are you tracking your calories, carbs and Proteins? No cheating between meals--be honest...

I've had the same issues so don't feel alone. Have you called the doctor's office for advice?

I usually get about 75-80 grams of protein a day. I drink 2 Protein Shakes and one Protein Bar and then I have dinner. I try to track as much as I can but I am always running around after on of the kids so I do forget sometimes. And I do cheat sometimes. I feel like if I don't indulge every once in a while I'll find myself locked in a closet surrounded by candy wrappers lol. I have spoken to the nutritionist at my doctors office and she said just about the same things you said and to be patient and the weight will eventually start to come off. But I have been at the same weight for about 4 months and it's getting very frustrating. I have to be doing something wrong that maybe ok not realizing.

So many things you could do.

First, are you journaling how much food you eat? Many people fool themselves into thinking they're eating fewer calories than they truly are?

Or.

Our bodies create set points as we lose weight. Our bodies will fight to maintain this new set point by causing us to be hungry or crave foods we don't need. Sometimes it takes a new approach to work through this set point such as, eating 2000 calories a day for a weekend? This might reset your metabolism rate? Or, try a version of the 5:2 diet. I did it by fasting 3 days a week and eating normal the other 4 days. Dr. Varady explains this in a video. I modified it to work with my own lifestyle. It's not fasting like we know it. It's 18 hours of not consuming any calorie containing liquids or food. Then eating one good 500 calorie meal. I broke a 3-4 month long plateau and lost 14 lbs using this tweaked method.

I agree with the 5:2 diet. I do a Protein shake diet 2 non consecutive days a week when I'm trying to jump start. Also it's important to track cuz those BLT's (bites, licks, and tastes) will add up and amount to a lot more than you think they will. Probably also wouldn't hurt to shake up your exercise routine a little. Change what you do and how often you do it.

Try setting a small goal, can be a size, an exercise goal or a weight and work towards it. Give yourself a reasonable timeframe to reach it.

But you've done so well!!! Anniversary just two days away? Try changing up your diet with something different. Look at the 5:2 diet? I like the 4:3 version to lose weight faster but it's not something you have to do forever, just to get over a plateau.

My scale stood still for 3 months till I started my 4:3 diet plan. If you have time look at this video. I modified the plan to fit my own personal lifestyle. I intermittent fast on Mon, Wed, Fri. I've dropped 16 lbs in the last 2.5 months and it's easy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
