So my surgery date is coming up aug 19 th I'm more then excited but one concern I have is thag I won't be able to continue to not smoke after surgery. I'm getting gastric bypass and was wondering if anyone had any advise for me. I no smoking is bad in general but it's not easy quitting

After cutting down to about 4 per day I used electronic cigarettes that I bought at the convenience store. I did that for two weeks then switch to the nicotine gum 4 milligrams for a month then switched to 2 milligrams for another month . I use gradually let's go each day over that period of months . A year and a half later still smoke free. Good luck to you can do it

The electric cig don't work for me. I slowed down for about a week and then with everything going in plus being hungry because of this two week diet I started smoking more again. I guess I just have to do it

You can do it. :) You are very brave and must just be bursting with hope and excitement to be going through with this surgery. Remember how brave you really are when temptation strikes

I quit smoking a couple months ago and it was agony. But every time I'm tempted (And ohhh boy it can be tempting), I remind myself that smoking will interfere with my healing after the surgery and increase the likelihood of complications. After reading all the complications and horror stories on these boards, that is enough to keep me from lighting up.

I quit for the surgery, a month before and stayed cig free for 2 months after the surgery. Too bad I started again, but I will quit again at this time for good.

I cut back, then used an ecig, then quit. It was very hard but I told myself I didn't really have a choice. I wanted this surgery more than I wanted cigarettes.

This the same mantra I tell myself about hair loss; If someone told you that you could lose 100# if you quit smoking you would do it, wouldn't you? Of course you would!

I quit smoking knowing I want this surgery. Both insurance and surgeon required me to be smoke free for 6 months. I haven't had a "real" cigarette since 12/31/13. I used an e-cigg until June 8th and then used a nicotine patch until June 16th. (I was planning on using the patch longer, but they really bugged my skin). Not a day goes by that I don't want a cigarette, but I will say it is getting easier to get past the cravings. I worry that I will smoke again after the surgery, too, but I keep telling myself you quit for this long - you will not smoke ever again. (I quit smoking for 9 months while I was pregnant - but by the time my daughter was 2 mos. old I was already back up to a pack a day, so I'm hoping I can stop myself from starting up again!!)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
