Extremely frustrated and feeling down

Recommended Posts

I am 10 months post-op and have lost a total of 93 pounds. Don't get me wrong, I'm so proud of that number, BUT I have lost NOTHING in 3 months!!! I even gain a few pounds then lose then...kind of like a game with just those few pounds. Up and down, up and down! I workout at the gym a minimum

of 3 days a week, but usually get there 5 days. I eat right, with the exception of a few bites of not great choices here & there, but nothing to even blink an eye at! Everytime I talk to my doctor, she says "hmmm you really should be losing more rapidly still...lets have you talk to the nutritionist." Then they agree I'm eating fine and I end up with no help or suggestions!!!

Has this happened to anyone else out there? What did you to about it? Please help?!?!?!?!

Hi Kim,

I've read some people do a reset with two weeks of liquid diet and follow their postop nutrition plan. You also need to know that some of your weight is from excess skin. Maybe you are drinking some calories or could have possibly developed a thyroid issue? Have your blood checked, that was my preop weight loss issue. Sometimes it just acts up.

I'm 14 months out and haven't lost since my tenth month. My weight varies within a 3-4 pound range, given Water weight (and other bodily substances ;) ). I workout 5 days out of the week as well. However, I will say that I have gone down another size. I know I've shed fat and gained muscle. Muscle is denser than fat. One pound of fat takes up a LOT more room than one pound of muscle. There's a good chance you're packing up that lean meat!

I just had my thyroid checked...normal! I did have some "female" issues and just had surgery (one day) on Monday. Was thinking maybe that was a factor?! I only drink Water or fresh brewed iced tea and coffee in the morning. I eat enough Protein, always making that the main part of my meals. Some days I feel great and "smaller" then others I feel bloated and huge! I think maybe I might try to go back to the "beginning" stage and see if that helps kickstart my body?!?!? I'm so so so frustrated and sad, like I've done this for nothing since I'm working so hard & feel like I'm hitting a brick wall!!

You haven't done this for nothing. You're over 90 pounds down in less than a year. This is just a small hiccup...your body adjusting...whatever medical explanation out there. You're smaller, healthier, getting fit with all that exercise. Would you be where you are today without the assistance of the sleeve?

Pick your head up, put one foot in front of the other and keep on trekking along. You WILL get there!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
