When I had my band almost 10 years ago I lost very quickly- I lost all my weight. Long story short I had to have all the Fluid taken out. 6 years later I gained a LOT back and nothing could stop it. Nothing shows up in lab results. I finally just had a pretty large fill. I can eat about 1000 a day. I could probably do 1300 if I wanted to but I don't. I'm not losing. I lost right after the fill on liquids but when I went to mushy stuff 2 lbs came back on. I figured that was Water and tried to get over it. Now it has been over a week and nothing. I'm drinking liquids, eating Protein and not high carb. Any ideas? When I didn't have a fill, I could starve off weight for a few weeks but couldn't keep it up after awhile. During those periods, I lost faster than I am now. Those were often crazy diets from doctors that weren't sustainable, but....I lost.

I'm weighing and measuring and following all the rules (I love rules).

You were looking for a fill doctor on the 3rd? Did you find one and when were you filled?

Typical weight loss with the band is 1-1.5 lbs a week. You can drink 2 glasses of Water and any weight loss won't show on the scale for that week.

You say you can eat 1000 calories a day? How many have you been eating and what are you eating?

Are you exercising?

One week is nothing in the grand scheme. If you eat 1000 cal/day, exercise 5 times a week, eat healthy foods and after one month the scale has not moved, then I'd be concerned? But, one week isn't enough time to make any comparisons or judgments?

I was looking for a fill doctor for a possible next fill if I need it. I have pretty decent restriction, but wanted to have someone in my phone to call if needed.

I had my fill on the 29th. I am eating right around 1000 a day. I could probably eat more, like I said, but I'm not. I just worry that at some point, the "being able to" might get to me, but that's not relevent to the moment.

I do know that I need to be exercising more and I am working towards that. It just seems like 2 lbs a week should be reasonable with a deficit like this without much else.

The first time around, I lose 3-5 lbs a week - fairly easily until the very end where I was getting off the last few lbs. Is it just this different? My weight keeps going up and down and up and down and by the end of the week, it's less than a lb. The ups and downs have to be Water because my food isn't that different on those days.

Is it possible my body is just a bit shocked and at some point I'll see a random difference on the scale after it adjusts?

You are ten years older. Weight is harder to lose when you are older. You are not as active as you were before. Your metabolism is not the same. I could drop 50 pounds in three months when I was in my 20s. Today I needed WLS and a lot of effort to do the same, and it took three times longer. Getting old has a price.

Is your fill the same as when you had the fluids removed?

Are you carefully tracking Protein intake and total calories--and being honest?

Are you exercising enough to burn enough calories to assist with the weight loss?

And, if you are looking for results in a week, be patient. The scale may not move for a week or two. Give it time, and keep on track.

because of serious problems I have been ordered by my doctor to weigh myself everyday. ughhhhh. my scale goes up and down like a yo yo. it is driving me nuts. I gain even 3 lbs overnight. and than lose the 3lbs and more the next day. I liked it better when I didn't weigh myself at all. just made sure I followed my program. and than knew I would lose when I saw the doctor.

You have to burn 3500 calories to lose 1 lb of fat. If you're consuming 1000 a day, you should be losing about 1.5 lbs of fat/week. But it doesn't always show up the scale due to Water retention or muscle increases due to exercising.

You're still looking at this like they did back in the infancy of the band. The band won't stop you from eating more than 1000 calories. I can still eat 3000 calories if I want. The band only makes us feel satisfied with less food. We look for being satisfied with less food for up to 4 hours to be in the green zone. There are a few exceptions to the rule of course.

We all stored up many lbs of Water before surgery so much of the initial weight loss is loss of fluids and those lbs come off in huge amounts. Don't expect 2 lbs a week or you might be disappointed. If you're not exercising 1 lb a week might be the best you can do.

Ten years is a big difference. The older you are the harder it is to lose weight even with the band. You are not going to lose every week, every month it just is reality. You can sit and cry about it but that is the truth. People don't get it. You cant lose weight constantly your body has to have time to catch up. Thats the reality with the band.

My fluids aren't the same as they were when I had them removed. I had them keeping to so tight I couldn't eat anything (which was part of a larger issue). I eat about 4 oz of Protein and am full for hours. I don't have an honesty issue with food. After going through treatment for anorexia many years ago, I learned what role honesty needed to play for me. I had my band young - 19. I'm still in my 20's albeit late ones. Does weight loss slow down that young? It's true that it's a decade of difference.

I don't need the band to stop me from anything. As I said, I'm eating about 1000, but could eat more if I wanted, but I'm not.

To Cheryl 2586, What gave you the impression that I'm sitting and crying about it? What's with the abrasiveness. I'm just looking for other folks experiences, support, ideas, thoughts.

And thanks for this below - that's what I was trying to figure out - is this just NOT working, or is it that it may just be taking a bit, might be recalibrating, etc.:

Why does everyone take everything literally. I never meant YOU personally were sitting and crying about it. Ever heard of figure of speech. This is one very big reason I do not come here often. Words are always taken the wrong way and people get too defensive.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
