Morrell Mushrooms

Recommended Posts

I am one lucky woman!!! Two guys I know from work gave me 2 pounds of morrell mushrooms that they found today. Does anyone have any recipes for them that does not include flour and hot oil? I've looked on the web and so far haven't found anything. Would love to try something new and band friendly.

Unless you know for a fact that these folks know the difference between a False Morel and an edible one, be very careful. The two look almost identical, and people have died from eating wild mushrooms that they thought were edible.

Oh you lucky dog! I miss my old home state of Michigan and their Morel mushrooms. I don't know of any other way to make them, then flour or cornmeal and hot oil. Maybe try canola oil to make it healthier and limit yourself to just a few. Or send some to your other bandster friends...hint, hint! LOL

Mmmm... morrels...

My dad makes them yummy. Something like an overnight saltwater bath, then a very light dusting in flour and a fry in butter.

I think I'd sautee them in a little olive oil or real butter, with some aromatic spices, and have them as a side dish....MMMMM!

I saute mine in a little evoo and garlic powder with a pinch of salt, Another way is saute onions until almost done then add your mushrooms with crushed garlic and place on top of chicken pieces. I can't eat very many, to rich for me, but oh so good.

My DH just fried them. I had about 4 small bites and they were yummy! I have the try the sausage recipe tho.

Laurend-I work for the Game and Parks and it was a Conservation officer (Game Warden) who brought them in. We get a lot of people who will bring us their mushrooms to identify them so we all have to know the difference.

That's great. I have to teach a fungi kingdom lab for my students each semester, and I always have to remind them to be careful if they go out to hunt for mushrooms (some of them aren't the brightest folks in the world). I just wanted to make sure that you knew the difference between the two.
