Depression, Diabetes, and Head Hunger

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I am now 9 weeks post op. Since surgery I am down 23lbs, since Feb (2014) I am down 52lbs. I have had two fills and am not hungry in between meals. Im a diabetic with an insulin pump. My blood sugars hang around the 120ish number which is good(80-120) normal range. The problem I am having is that my mind(head) keeps telling me to eat so my sugar don't drop over night. This causes me to get up in the middle of the night and eat something. Usually I grab some form of Protein. I'm in fear of my sugar getting too low thus I am eating. I seem to be sad white a bit lately. Missing my comfort food, being full however, not satisfied with what I ate leaving me to eat something else later. Since I am feeling depressed I feel that maybe a reason why I'm not satisfied with my food. Any guidance, tips, what you did if you had a similar or same issue?

Rose

you didn't say how much insulin you are still needing daily. if you are not needing much perhaps it is time to discontinue the pump. instead of getting up in the middle of the night have something around 9. if you have food in your pouch and than lay down you are asking for reflux. also if you are getting hungry you may not be adjusted to the green yet. our eating disorders didn't go away just because we have a band in us. if you are really struggling it is okay to seek some help. I talk with my psychiatrist all the time and it helps. I wish you lots of good things. when your clothes are fitting looser and you are needing some new bra's you will be happier and know this is all worth it. hang in there. but night eating needs to be dealt with. not good.

I'm not diabetic but you're not in the green zone yet so hunger is still there. Wishing you the best. Good luck.

Terrydumont46,I'm on an insulin pump getting 2.75 units every hour. No insulin at meals. Put a call into my diabetes doc to see about some alternatives to not using the pump. Thanks for the advise I will try that eat something and make an appointment to talk to someone.

Just watch me thanks for the well wishes. I'm not hungry between meals bu my head tells me I need to eat. I fear my sugars dropping too low especially at night.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
