Under these circumstances you should call your doc and see if you need a slight unfill, fluoro, Nexium mups, or something different.

If you would have had heartburn before banding that would be one thing. But since it started after banding, you might want to get checked out.

I would call your doctor. I let mine go too far and had to have an un-fill, I am still taking Nexium 2 times a day, 10 months later. Make sure you don't eat too close to bedtime, I stop 2-3 hours before bed. coffee seemed to aggravate mine in the beginning but I can have a cup or two or three. ( probably why I'm still on the Nexium) But it could be as simple a being a bit too tight, Mine seems to be aggravated by allergies too.

I had heartburn before my surgery - also had a hiatal hernial (not sure yet if it was repaired...doc said he'd repair it, but i was seen for my first post op visit by another doc and they didn't have the op report yet). Since my surgery 5 weeks ago, I have not had any heartburn, however, recently it's come back. I'm thinking it's because I'm eating spicier foods again. I go for my first possible fill on Monday...I'm going to take my Nexium and lay off the spicy foods and see if that helps...

Funny this came up because i too have been having some heartburn which i never had before the lap band. I have had the band for a full two years. About two months ago i started having heartburn about one a week, no i seem to be having it daily. I am planning to call the doctor tomorrow because it has kept me up the past two nights.

I had terrible hearburn before my surgery and have not had it since. When I woke up my surgeon told me I had a huge hiatal hernia. I had no idea that I had it. He fixed it while he was in there. I had been really out of breath before the surgery when I would walk or climb stairs. He told me it was pressing on my diaphram and would have caused the heartburn and shortness of breath. I would definitely talk to my doctor if I was having any problems at all. Good luck! Kelly

I was wondering how much coffee would affect me once I get banded. I was told by my doctor's ofice that I would have to give up caffeine, but I really hate the thought of giving up my morning cuppa.......Any one here doing ok (no indigestion, etc.)while still drinking coffee? Thanks

abominableglib,

My doctors office just called and told me my hiatal hernia was large and the surgeon wanted me to take over the counter prilosec for a week before surgery. They didn't mention repairing it during surgery, but he had said in preop consult that they sometimes can. I was just wondering if your recovery time was extended? Was your surgery longer?

Thanks!!

Beckie

It didn't seem to take longer but I'm not exactly sure. He told me about it in the recovery room and said he took care of it. He asked if I had had heartburn and that was a BIG YES!!! None since though. I laid around a few days longer than some people say-lots of popcicles. :) Good luck. Kelly

I did read some of them. I failed to mention that I caught some virus also. So, my dr called back and I advised her of that. She seems to think it may be the virus affecting me. Or that I might need some of the fill removed.

Thanks,

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
