lillyme 0 Posted August 6, 2014 Hi everyone, I'm new to this site and am hoping to get peoples recommendations and personal experiences with surgeons in the Perth region. I am 23 years old and have struggled with my weight for a very long time, it's never been a secret that I'm embarrassed and have very low self esteem because of my weight but over the past 2 years it's been especially hard. I struggle with depression and anxiety (I've been on and off anti-depressants for 6 years) I stress all the time about my weight, it has stopped me from living a normal life. I've tried everything but the weight never seems to shift, I know I'm not alone with these struggles and it's reassuring to find a site like this. 4 months ago I went to my GP desperate and asking for help again, went through some bloods tests and found out I have PCOS and insulin resistance which makes it really difficult to lose weight, I've been put on metformin to try and correct my insulin levels. I asked my GP about lap banding and she gave me a referral to Dr. Kevin Dolan. After doing some research I thought I better ask about the sleeve as well to figure out what's right for me. He's said for my age I should opt for the band but for the PCOS the sleeve is the right way to go as my weight loss will be slower and more difficult compared to a woman without PCOS. The whole idea of the sleeve is scary and makes me more nervous the more research I do, but at the same time I'm excited for a life change. My private health insurance kicks in February 2015 so I still have plenty of time to decide what surgeon I will go with and gain more info from others experiences. Good and bad experiences, I want to hear them all, thanks guys x
Kaity93 0 Posted September 30, 2014 Hello lillyme Im from wa, 21 years old and have my surgery date which is next week 8th October! I am very nervous and excited! Im trying to read as much as I can on this site to help me get through it all. Im going through Dr Stephen Watson at murdoch SJOG. He is a lovely man and have heard nothing but good things about him, he is also alot cheaper! If you go through him 10 days pre op you will have to go on Optifast for 3 meals eat as much veggie/salad and have diet drinks abd jelly. I simply cannot drink the shakes as I have had bad experience with them before and the smell and taste I cant bare!! So the dietitian gave me the option to have at least 1-2 Optifast shakes and 1-2 light meals, so I just have heaps of salad and a little bit of chicken! This will be different for each person. Im trying to think of other things to tell you, right now Im unsure :/ lol. Feel free to ask me questions, ill try my best to answer them
