How did it go?

The Visit was good. My surgeon was concerned with my G.E.R.D. so he did a small endoscopy with local numbing. Let me tell you that was very uncomfortable. It made me gag and then vomit up the concoction they made me drink for the H Pylori Test. He stated that I had a severe hernia and that I would need to have my esophageal valve reconstructed. Because of this he wanted to do a Duodenal Switch. I still have 6 months of weight management that I have to do before the surgery. But I would say that It was a good visit.

That's good news, now you know what you need to do. I have acalasia , some muscle in my esophagus go the wrong way and the valve has hardened. My surgeon is going to both procedures when he does the RNY. Six months sounds long but it goes pretty fast. My last visit is next thurs. Then I hope to get my date. Good luck with your journy.

I was glad to know what needs to be done. It does freak me out a little. The Duodenal Switch seems scary because of the extent of the malabsorption as well and the time it will take in surgery to correct all the problems, increases my risk. I have faith in my surgeons ability. He is in a center of Excellence and these are the only type of procedures they do. They have a outstanding success rate.

I had my first appointment today too and it went well. Im on the fast track. Talked to the team. Got blood work, ekg, urinalysis and chest x rays all done today. Nutrition appt on Tuesday. Psych eval appt aug 21 @6pm. They will call me for my upper gi appt next week. Then one more nutrition appt and Im all done. Submit to ins then surgery date. I will more than likely get it done in October. At least thats what Im praying for. Im doing RNY!

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
