When I have eaten to much....since post op 3 months

Recommended Posts

Hello BP friends,

I wanted to know if anyone has experienced the eaten to much syndrome. I learned early on with a bad experience about eating and drinking liquids at the same time. I was at a wedding several weeks post op and I was hungry and at quite a few hor dorvs and at dinner time at the reception, I threw up.

Since that time I read we are not suppose to eat solids and drink at the same time, one or the other.

Also I noticed when I am full or my sleeve is full which I can only ever eat half, half, half, if that of any plate, my nose starts to run like crazy. Anyone experienced that?

My stomach starts to hurt, has anyone wisdom on this experience?

There are amazing food that I can tolerate others I can not. Like I can tolerate bread, amazing, but not chicken or rice, or spaghetti which use to be my favorites, surprised, surprised, surprised?

All The Best,

Your Friendly Sleever

A runny nose when you have eaten too much is pretty common, as are things like sneezing, hiccups, etc. It's because the food in your tiny stomach is pressing against and irritating the vagus nerve, which controls a lot of those involuntary upper-body type functions.

The NP at my surgeon's office stressed that having a runny nose or hiccups or anything like that doesn't mean you've eaten enough and should stop. It means you have eaten too much and should be careful to eat less of that type of food the next time!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
