Port feeling

Recommended Posts

When y'all say you "feel the port"....do you mean you actually feel it sitting INSIDE you, or do you feel it from the outside?

I can feel mine on the outside. It kinda protrudes a little. I can definitely feel it if I press down and can not rest anything on the site.

I don't feel anything on the inside, but if I feel around the area where it is, I can feel it from the outside. The only time I feel anything inside is when I'm laying on my back and my cat decides to step right on it. Still a bit uncomfortable when she does that. Otherwise, nothing, unless I'm feeling for it.

I can feel mine quite easily from the outside. My sister says she can see right where it is. I think it is very close to my skin because I feel it when I'm bending over to put on shoes or socks and lying on my side. It's not a bad pain but it is a little uncomfortable.

Ok, whew. I had visions of feeling the thing hanging around in my body with all that tubing and stuff. I don't mind feeling it from the outside. I have knotty scar tissue from an accident that has a bumpy feel, so I am used to that.

I had NO idea where mine was until I had my first fill and I had to lay on a pillow and do a small crunch so he could insert the needle (very painless). Now since I know where it is I can feel it when just standing there if I poke a little.....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
