Hi everyone just reading some of these threads and it's a great deal of help. I decided today at my weight center appointment that I am ready for surgery. Meeting with the surgeon on 8/28 to go over both options RNY and Sleeve. Not sure which is best for me .

I have diabetes on insulin

PCOS

Fatty Liver

IBS

Body aches and pains

5'5. 249lbs

My quality of life is horrible I'm only 40 and I'm so sick of living like this... Hubby is a little nervous about this but will support my decision. Any info or advice is welcomed. Thank you all. ????

Hey Angie413,

I'd like to welcome you, I am a newbie as well. I haven't had my surgery either. I have most of the same health issue as you. I also am on the fence about my surgery. Because of the diabetes I'm leaning towards RNY because it has the best result as far as lowering the use of medicines and insulin. But the sleeve seems to offer less complications. Maybe we will both figure it out. Good luck

I also have about the same health issues. I'm doing my last surgical class next week and hope to have my RNY not to long after. The RNY is about the best chance to reduce or eliminate insulin usage. Good luck to you.

You've come to the right place! You will find people with diabetes that can help you make that decision. Also, you can do searches and look in forums to find references to scientific literature. Best wishes.

Welcome! and congratulations on your decision. I too have health problems, including diabetes, that I am hoping will be corrected with this surgery (I chose gastric bypass). I have started my two week pre-op liquid diet and surgery is set for August 19th. This site is such a wonderful place for support, and you can find surgery buddies and the information found here is priceless. The more I read the less scared I become. Wish I had done this sooner, but I guess it wasn't the right time. This is my time now and I am optimistic and committed and will follow this new journey all the way to the end.

Good luck on your own journey...

Welcome! I also went back and forth about which surgery to choose. The sleeve seems less scary, but I went with bypass due to my diabetes. Your surgeon can help you make the decision also.

Welcome!!! I have many comorbidities as well. Diabetes, pcos, Gerd, stress incontinence, etc.... I had the RNY on June 25th and I feel awesome. I have lost almost 60 pounds and my blood sugar is normal for the first time in years. I don't have heartburn anymore. I go to the gym 6 days a week for hour or so. I had no pain or nausea after surgery. The only food I have had problems with is tuna. It definitely got stuck. Anyway, that being said. Do all the homework you can about before your surgery. You will do far better if you are prepared.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
