Anyone wanna do a 5K walk/run with me?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys: I want to participate in the Los Angeles 5K walk / run Marathon. I thought for a fleeting second about the HUGE marathon but that is a brutal 26 miles. WHEW!! I think I can handle the 5K better which is only 3.1 miles.

Here is some info:

The Emerald Nuts 5k Run/Walk takes place on Sunday, March 6, 2005 in conjunction with the 20th Los Angeles Marathon. Shortly after watching 23,000 runners, walkers and wheelchair athletes pass the one-mile mark of the City of Los Angeles Marathon in front of Staples Center, an estimated 4000 people will start the 3.1 mile Emerald Nuts 5K Run/Walk.

The Emerald Nuts 5K Run/Walk offers a full morning of family fun. After participating in a warm-up, participants will head out on the course, which starts in front of Gilbert Lindsey Plaza and heads south on Figueroa Blvd to Jefferson Blvd and back to the Convention Center. Following the Emerald Nuts 5K, many participants take a short walk up Figueroa to Olympic Blvd. in time to see the elite Marathoners and wheelchair athletes enter the last mile of the race. Many Emerald Nuts 5k participants also start their day by riding in the Acura L.A. Bike Tour.

The registration fee is $15.00

Anyone interested??? I will most likely do it anyway whether anyone else does or not. Gotta have me a goal.

If you wanna know more info then go to www.lamarathon.com and click on the 5K link at the top of the page.

Penni,

I sure wish I lived close enough, I love a good scenic walk with friends. I'm going to look for one closer to home though, and we can compare notes ok?

If I can get the time off, I'd love to join you. I have lots of family in LA and I'm way overdue for a visit. Hope to have lost another chin by then!

I live in Hawthorne, so I should be able to do it. I just need to get myself walking on a regular basis between now and then LOL.

Should be a good time ;)

How much training are you doing, Penni? I saw that you are going to go to the gym.

I'd love to come do the walk with you, but it's hard to make such a quick trip. I'm thinking about it.

How far is 5 K anyway? :Bunny

Winter quarter just started last week, and my class runs through March 16 so I'm not sure I can join you. Don't count me out yet, though -- I may be able to get a last-minute flight with free miles if I get my assignments done early.

Hello everyone, I have been gone for a while, just got back from a three week vacation visiting family in Mexico and from getting my first fill. It was kind of scary at first because I didn't know what to expect, but it was a breeze, my doctor put me on a liquid diet again (for three days) boy am I glad that's over, I'm at the mushy stage again. Is this common with a fill? I got banded the first week in November and I have lost 23lbs, I am really happy, I lost 10 lbs while on vacation, that's a first for me... Well I did indulge while on vacation, I'm glad I did my fill on the way back and not on the way over, I got to try some delicious Mexican food. But anyway, I too am doing a 5k run, We have an annual festival called Swamp Cabbage, and there is a 5k run, I am starting to train tonight. I am working out with a personal trainder twice a week and going to curves at least three times a week, ( I had been off, due to vacation) but am starting again tonight and I am really looking forward to it. Wish I could head on in to the big city, I haven't been to Los Angeles since I was a little girl. I have a lot of relatives there maybe someday I can go back to visit them. Well good luck in your marathon, as I will be thinking of you when I do my training.

Estela

OK 5K equals 3.1 miles. Total time would be around an hour. As far as training I walk every day and average anywhere from 1.5 to 4.5 miles each walk. The 5K marathon in Los Angeles is a walk/run. So you can either walk it or run it. I plan on walking it. I don't have the knees to run something like this yet. But just wait till next year. LOL!!

Good luck to everyone out there with their exercise goals.

Oh I so wish I could.. banded or not it would be a great thing to do, I just cant even walk to my car or mailbox without wanted to curl up in a ball and cry from pain. Good luck with the walk though!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
