RavensAngel 22 Posted August 5, 2014 I did my pre-op test last week and the doctors office called today I missed the call but she left a detailed message that I have moderate GERD. The surgeon wants to do an upper GI scope to make sure there's no damage before doing the sleeve. Sad Face I hope this not prevent the end result. Anyone have issues completing surgery due to GERD ????
1Day1Life4Now 882 Posted August 5, 2014 yep,I had and still have pretty bad GERD but there was no Barretts Esopagus so all was good and I had my surgery. I'm almost 6 months out and I'm still taking prilosec. I'm still happy with my sleeve though.

Gibble 28 Posted August 5, 2014 I had GERD when I had my surgery and still do. Take protonix daily. Also had a hiatial hernia which was repaired during surgery. Had my sleeve in Feb. and feeling great.
RavensAngel 22 Posted August 5, 2014 The nurse said someones going to schedule a scope so hopefully they get that done soon. It would be a bummer to have any delays! ;(
mi75 1,235 Posted August 5, 2014 i have severe GERD and Barretts and it was one of the diagnoses used to get my surgery approved! i still take Protonix daily also and my surgeon said i should plan to be on it for about a year or until i lose most of my weight. i have only felt a couple episodes of reflux since my surgery and it was in the evening after i ate Tomato bisque. i wonder if it was just too acidic at that point post op. hang in there, a scope/EGD isn't a big hitch and shouldn't delay you... 1 RavensAngel reacted to this
RavensAngel 22 Posted August 6, 2014 I have been trying to get to the point of approval for about two years I think I might be going on my third year. Finally I get the Approved letter and then they say OH well this wasn't so good. BOOO! I'm on the preop diet and have made adjustments to it to reflect not eating any GERD triggering food. I was shocked to see Garlic and Onions on the list of can't have items. I love both alot and WOW not having them will be interesting but I shall feel better in the end.
