Has anyone else walked the journey of so many post operative complications causing surgery, more surgery, investigation after investigation, followed by even more surgery???

It's only been a year... seven surgical operations to stretch the esophagus & stomach (called dilatation). Such extreme pain & spasm caused 2 emergency resuscitations by Emergency Mica Paramedicals & specialist HDU doctors/anesthetist resulting in 2 stays in the Intensive Care Unit of 2 hospitals...

Has anyone had same or god forbid worse?

Yes the weightloss has been incredible 1/2 my original body mass weight in a year has vanished....but at what cost?

Havnt had my surgery yet but just wanted to say I'm so sorry you've had such a rough time.

If you don't mind me asking, what caused all the complications?

Oh you must be so excited being this close to the best change in your life!

It is a well known complication from gastric sleeve surgery, usually no big deal & managed really easily..at worst a dilatation post op procedure; I just got the extreme end of the complication!!!

Don't be put off. If this was common this surgical procedure I'm sure would be banned.

I'm a 1-5% minority whose organs didn't like/rebelling against the surgery... sad face sad face

There is another member on here RJ who has had numerous serious complications, and she doesn't regret it.

Hopefully she will see this and chime in.

Hi Chatterbox86, i see your original post was on 5/8/14. I had my sleeve the following week and was in and out of hospital until Christmas eve. I developed a leak and went septic. I also got pneumonia, a stent put in then removed, a collection in my chest cavity which is still there and gives me pain daily, nj tubes, pic lines no food or Water for months, developed diabetes insipidus, became suicidal, had drains in my chest, almost died twice, countless procedures and now have my hair coming out in chunks (i expected some hairloss but this is rediculous). I also have flashbacks of my time in hospital, half of which i dont remember.

I, like you sometimes think to myself was it worth all this? right now, i wish i never had it but in time, im sure i will be glad i made the decision to have it. I have lost 73kg so far so that is a plus.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
