When you go into MFP, what do you set your nutrition goals at? RNY is high Protein, low fat, low carb. How do I know what percentages to set my goals at so that I keep carbs and fat where they should be...or do you basically just set it based on your protein requirements?

I have mine set based on my Protein goals and now that I am on maintenance on calorie goals. While I was losing, I really paid attention to the Protein and didn't really watch fat or carbs. I was not eating many carbs anyway and fat is not a big concern because we don't absorb it like we used to. Obviously, protein is critical, so that is what I focused on. Good luck! I find it a very valuable tool and would be lost without it.

I have mine set at 40%/30%/30% - carbs/fat/protein. Nothing magical about those ratios but they seem to be sort of a generic "normal" diet. Like many other bypass folks, I don't pay much attention to fat but monitor my Protein intake daily to ensure I'm reaching or coming close to the 100g/day my surgeon recommends. Carbs are not often a problem but I'm a recovering "carb addict" so I watch them pretty closely. It can be frustrating and even self-defeating to be too focused on chasing the numbers/percentages. I watch protein and calories closely and the rest generally take care of themselves. MFP is a priceless tool and I'd be lost without it!

I love MFP and use it daily. I have mine set as:

Carbs 70grams 35%

Proteins 70grams 35%

Fat 27 grams 30%

I think it's different for everyone depending on their height and weight.

I don't eat bread, rice, Pasta, Cookies, cakes or anything sweet. I also don't drink milk. I do have soy or add cream to my coffee time to time.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
