I had my surgery on 21 July and today I had my first setback

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on 21 July and today I had my first setback. I was placed on puréed foods and I started eating my first meal of cottage cheese and yogurt today. Everything was great. My third meal of cottage cheese and Protein felt weird on the way down . I had a uncomfortable pain in my center of my chest that felt like I needed a burp but I couldn't. 20 minutes later I have nowhere I puked uncontrollably for about 10 seconds and it was like fraught. Please somebody tell me I'm not the only one that have this concern or feeling

Same problem... Seems like everything other than clear Soups and juices is causing acidic burning, excessive salivation and ultimately vomiting, and I had my sleeve done on the same day you did. I don't know what the answer is, but you're not alone.

You may just have to slow down. I didn't get to puree's until 3 weeks out . And even then I could only do 1 "meal" a day. It would take me all day to process it. In fact, I had to drink most of my fluids and not have anything puréed until later in the day because I couldn't drink much after eating. And the most I ate at a time was 1-2 tablespoons over 20 minutes. Gradually I could consume 2 "meals" and then more. The same happened when I got to soft foods. I just had to go super slow each time I transitioned to new, more solid stuff. It was 3 months before I could comfortably eat.

And as for the burning, my surgeon had me on 40mg Omeprazole for 2 months, but I still had to take Maalox or Rolaids sometimes.

Eating too much to quickly could be the culprit too. Slow down and listen to the signs your new tummy is giving you. You may find out that it's telling you that you are already full. One mouthful too much brings these symptoms on for me. I am 11 weeks out

I had similar problems and could only "stomach" Cream of Mushroom Soup. I was only eating about 3/4 of a can per day during the 1st 2 months post-op. I could tolerate other foods, but it was really only a teaspoon of this and a teaspoon of that. I wasn't really up to eating any normal foods till about the 3rd month post-op, and then, I was still only eating 4 or 5 bites.

Just started soft foods last Thursday and I notice if I go too fast or more than maybe 2 oz I will get that pressure pain.in my chest - I figure I am just relearning how fast and how much I can have at a time?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
