One week out and don't have any strength. Went out today to Dr follow-up. Brought Protein Drink with me but I still felt like crap when I was brought home . Had to sleep. Anyone else still dragging around?

Omg!! I had surgery on 7/29 and I 100% have zero energy or motivation! I thought it was just me since I can't start my Protein Shakes until after my post op appt tomorrow. I'm really hoping once I get some Vitamins and Protein in me I will begin to have more energy, cause this is killing me!!' Prayers are with you Maureen!

My energy didn't start to pick up until about week three. I'm five weeks out now and although my energy is much improved I'm still struggling with stamina.

Our incisions are so small, I don't think they give us a tangible idea of the amount of work that was done internally. This is major surgery with multiple incisions and general anesthesia, take the time you need to recover!

Some advice- the first couple of times you go out make sure you go somewhere with places to sit! My first outing was to Homegoods... perfect because there are chairs for sale there. The Apple store, not a single seat.

In addition, for the first week post op you're taking prescription pain killers which, though they help pain, can drastically affect how you feel. Most of us are in poor health BEFORE surgery and that affects how quickly you feel better, too. You just had MAJOR invasive surgery - rest as needed and follow your doctor's instructions. Give it time and you WILL feel better. :-)

Okay, I feel kind of like the elephant in the room and it's making me nervous. I'm only 5 days out and have so much energy that I'm nearly bursting at the seams. I had a sleeve and was in constant pain for two years and now after revising to the bypass my whole world spun around in one day. I now have zero pain with eating, nothing gets stuck, no nausea at all, nothing. I'm starting to wonder if my recovery is going to drop off and be more like what you are describing here. I literately got in my car today and had the engine on before I realized that I can't drive because I just had surgery..my family said it might be because I felt so bad before that now that I'm pain free it feels like I'm flying. I mean, I still have some soreness from surgery but seriously, I feel amazing. I'm getting enough Protein and Fluid down and let me just mention one more time that I am completely pain FREE! I never ever thought I would say that sentence this far out, I honestly think the hardest thing to do for me is to take it easy and not push myself so hard that I go backwards.

Has anyone else experienced this? Am I going crazy?

NO! you are not crazy. i had a for the most part painless surgery over a year ago and was ready to hit the trails within a week. i have energy levels that would rival the hoover dams energy output. just take that energy and focus on your exercise and sqeezing the enjoyment out of life ever minute for the rest of you long life.

try all of the things you thought you could never do.....you will be amazed at how much is out there

Same here. Had RNY 7/24 and I'm not having any issues at all. Seems very strange to not have any pain, and enough energy. I'm trying to convince myself to not obsess about it. Thanks for posting.

You are not going crazy. I have been unstoppable since surgery. No pain, no nausea. Once the morphine was out of my system, I was up cleaning and doing other chores. I have no problems getting all my Protein in and fluids in for the day. At two weeks, I started going to the gym 6 days a week. I either power walk on the treadmill for an hour or ride the bike for 10 to 12 miles, usually about 45 minutes to an hour on the bike. I want to start running on the treadmill but I am scared I am going to fall. Anyway, I am glad I am not alone. The issues I have had is with tuna getting stuck and now I have an infection in one of my incisions. However, I think the infection stems from my spinal cord stimulator implant. It has been hurting extremely bad the last few days and today I ended up with abscess looking incision that popped and a ton of green gunk come out of it. It is still leaking. I think the main part of the infection is in my back. I called the back doctor about the pain with the stimulator battery yesterday and they scheduled me to see the doctor on Tuesday. I am going to call them in the morning and inform that I have an infection. Sorry that I rambled about my back. You are not alone with feeling great. Enjoy it!!!! Keep me posted on how you are doing.

I had surgery on the 29th of July, and I am just dragging and still have pain. I did feel better today and hope that each day will be better and better. I also had the sleeve in 2007 and lived in constant pain and severe acid reflux. I feel so much better in that respect than I could ever imagine. I pray for everybodies continued recovery, this has been a very severe operation.

I had RNY 7/31 and I feel fabulous. I too was in the car today before I remembered I was not to be driving. It is hard not to do things when you are pain free. See my Dr. tomorrow and I am so excited.

I had RNY on 7/15 and my energy level is so low. Stamina is almost non-existent. I am hoping as I begin stage 3 tomorrow, where I can eat canned chicken and eggs, that I might start feeling better. I'm able to get 41g of Protein in each day, but I'm really getting tired of the sweet Protein Shakes :( I'm getting in between 1.5-2 miles of walking a day but I am so drained by mid afternoon that I could nap for hours.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
