I LOVE this website! I was never much of a cook before surgery, but I love these recipes. Sometimes I tweak them to make them fit what I have on hand (I hate grocery shopping even more than cooking) and find ways to incorporate even more Protein by adding flavored or unflavored Protein powder where I can.

BTW, the bananas foster French toast is to die for! I added vanilla Protein Powder to the batter in place of vanilla extract.

meh, canned cream of chicken Soup? more like cream of chemical soup.

Ha! Yeah, you gotta be careful with some of that. I've got my own recipe for homemade that I love.

That cream of chemical stuff helped me in my liquid phase, there lots of other stuff that's worse for you than that. I can't stand it now but it helped a lot then!

i think there are plenty of better options, but everyone makes their own choices about what they put in their bodies.

I'm looking at my cream of mushroom soup.... filtered Water, portobello mushrooms, potatoes, onions, celery, tapioca starch, expeller pressed canola oil and/or safflower oil and/or sunflower oil, sea salt, roasted garlic, mushroom juice concentrate, garlic powder, onion powder, natural flavors, organic spices.

What chemicals are you talking about?

Preservatives ^^^

Where? As far as I can tell it's the canning process that preserves. Maybe other kinds add preservatives.

How funny is it that we are all/were fat (and got here somehow!), yet I feel sort of judged about canned cream of mushroom Soup. Yes, we all do choose what to put in our bodies. ;) It's pretty clear that 99% of us sucked that one up. :D

actually, i was challenging the idea that a "foodie" would use canned cream of anything!

i like to get to know people better before i actually judge them. ????

Yeah I'd like to think we're past any judging of others. I'm glad you believe that there is better stuff out there to eat but what I was saying was at that stage it was best for me to find something that would stay down, and that worked for me. And if there is chemicals in the Soup I was obviously ok with it. I understand that what we put in our bodies is our choice, and while you believe it's chemical soup and that's your opinion, i rather liked it and respectfully disagree.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
