Totally curious... How many calories per day are you on?

Recommended Posts

I did some research and it appears that most post WLS patients eat between 1000-1200 calories per day. So, I decided that that would be good for me...And the first week or two I saw GREAT results, but now I'm a bit stalled out. I guess I would assume I'm not eating enough calories-- MyFitnessPal fusses at me when I don't hit at least 1200-- but... Calories in- calories out, I should be OK. I'm a student/mom/wife and not especially active at the moment. My BMR is supposedly not quite 1800 cal/day with no activity. So on 1200 cal/day, that creates a calories deficit of 4200 per week which should be 1.2 pounds.

So... All that to say... How many calories do you consume in a day? How many did you in the beginning (I'm starting over, so I feel I'm IN the beginning, even if it's 4 years out)? Any tips for me?

Usually your NUT or doctor will let you know where you should be on calorie intake. My doctor wants me to be around 900-1000 calories a day. My advise is to see where they want your calories because everyone's NUT and doctor have different guidelines.

Sadly, I was a self pay band in Mexico and don't really see my doctor very often. Or ever. LOL At the moment I'm completely unilled-- paying to see the doctor's office who does my fills in the area is VERY expensive so I want to avoid it if at all possible. Stinking insurance doesn't cover ANYTHING bariatric. I can't wait til I finish school and have insurance through MY job as well as my husband's!

I started out eating 800 to 1000 per day. As my workout intensity increased I upped it to 1200 a day. Just stick with it. Stalls happen. As you get thinner, even more so.

The fills are not that much in fla , don't know your status . The best way to start is a support group n the doctors group. They will work with you. Mine did, I went to meeting they do once a month and showed I was serious and the doctor took me. Since you made a commitment to yourself, they will see that, and want to help. Good-luck

My post band body only needs and wants around 1000 calories a day. Math doesn't work on bodies that did Not cooperate with us( in my opinion). I am faithful to work outs and Protein and I stay about the same for years now. Sigh. Thank goodness I'm not hungry much and most important for me....The weight stays off. I am very happy staying smaller in this world. Would do it again. At a younger age!!!

Ok, good! I was wondering about the calories since my MyFitnessPal app gives me a warning that eating less than 1200 calories is unhealthy and I was wondering if I was doing this wrong!

So... After WLS, our bodies just don't respond to "normal" calories like a non-WLS person? Is this standard? I know I was banded back in 2010, but I might as well be a newbie because other than surgery being performed I know nothing!

It is frustrating to have MyFitness Pal warning you to eat more. It flashes me the starvation mode message a lot. I wish there was a WLS app.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
