URGENT SUPPORT NEEDED: Representatives Johnson (D-TX) and Blumenauer (D-OR) are circulating a letter for members of Congress to support state health exchange plans providing equal and fair coverage for obesity treatment tools. The OAC is always advocating for better access to obesity treatment options, and they need YOUR help to explain why this is so important! It takes only 30 seconds! You can make a difference – ask your representatives to sign-on in support of covering obesity treatments in state health exchanges by clicking here.

Please also help spread the word – we have only a short time to influence this issue!

Hey, everyone. Hoping y'all are still around. I am a Heads Up program participate and could use some advice on what to expect. I just finished my two week liquid diet before the doctors approve me for surgery. Got my chest xray so just playing the waiting game.

Like you I finished my shakes on July 6th and completed my chest x-Ray on my two week visit. Now I'm waiting for the call. Please keep me updated when you receive your surgery approval call and I'll do the same.

Best Wishes for a successful surgery and banded life. Dr. Thomas is a great surgeon, and the follow-up visits have been great. Once you are a few weeks out from surgery, I can offer two bits of advice...... Schedule and go to ALL of your follow-up monthly appointments and get into some EXERCISE routine. I have a follow-up appointment tomorrow and since I will be one year out on August 22, I think they will start scheduling appointments every three months. I now exercise SIX days a week......If I can do it, just about anyone can do it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
