Hi. I am new to this site and very grateful that I found you all. I had my lapband surgery on Thursday the 31st. I am starving! I have been Hungry since Sat. His clear liquid diet is killing me. I go to my Dr. Tomorrow. Hopefully I can make it to the 1 week mark where I can at least have Protein Shakes and creamy Soups. Help! Did I make a mistake?

I had the sleeve, so I am not qualified to give you suggestions. However, I wish you the best and good luck.

I had my surgery on Thursday as well, and I have done good so far, but I know before I can eat soft foods I'm going to be so hungry.

So you have been experiencing hunger on the clear liquid diet as well? That is good to know that I am not the only one. Like I said before, I think I will be ok when I canst least have a Protein shake, healthy smoothies and creamy Soups.

Hi , I also had mine done on the 31St and I'm experiencing similar hunger jabs. What are you eating / drinking ATM ? I'm finding a coffee with little splash of skim milk helps.. But yesterday I had about 2 tablespoons of yoghurt which helped to. Try filling up on Water. Boring I know but hopefully time goes fast , I simply cannot wait to have a chicken salad !

Thanks. Since you and I have the same surgery day, tomorrow is 1 week. What are you planning to eat/drink? Cream of mushroom Soup sounds good per my doc. I was hoping to make a homemade smoothie.

Hi there, the lapband is Adjustable, which means it needs to be adjusted -- it's great to have the surgery done but until you reach the green zone it's just another diet. Fills are required to get to the place where your appetite is dimmed.

Do it ! I had a smoothie yesterday, just a light one nothing thick . Think it was strawberry, banana, kiwi fruit and coconut Water to thin in out, I felt so much better, I had one for brekkie this morning, peach , half an orange half a banana, and thin yoghurt, I couldn't eat it all but it was amazing .. Just.listen to your body, every one is different .. I've seen lots of people getting hammered for not following the guidelines but in the end of the day it's your body. For us new to this it's a learning experience , do try enjoy it. Soup is fantastic I'm onto cream of Soups and I've got so much more energy. :) 1 week today yay

Keep your eye on the prize and remember why you did this. It has been a long time since I walked in the similar shoes as you all but I did it just as we all have to. This is the tough part and it will only get better from here. It is so worth it. Be strong and push through. You're nearly there. Best wishes!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
